Washing out of training

Today, my classmates were chatting about reasons for washing out, failing checkrides. And subsequently having to quit before you get shown the door. I certainly don't want to be one of those. I was curious if anyone knows guys who washed out for any reason. Was it in the middle of sims? During ground? Couldn't remember to do standard callouts? I certainly don't plan on doing so, but when I hear stories of getting the boot because of such simple things, it kinda gives me a knot in my stomach. I'm just about to finish ground school and go into the sims. So far, its not been bad.

Any stories?
 
Most people do pretty well in ground school classes. A lot of the washouts are usually in the sims usually because their instrument flying isn't up to the task. But training usually works with an individual but there's only so much extra sim time you can get.
 
Here we have about 3-5 guys out of each class not make it through the sims. They told us that in ground school, and we were all "Sure. Everyone in here is top notch." Well, we lost about 4 guys that were a mix of experience levels, all in the sims. Some guys bust the oral....twice. Here they give you two shots on the oral and two shots on the checkride. You get 10 sim sessions, which is actually a lot. The last three sims are there to work on "problem" areas. If you're showing improvement at that point, they'll work with you. If you hit a brick wall and don't show signs of improvement in the sim 8-10 area....well, there's probably a meeting with the training director in your future.
 
I just recently had a friend wash out of training at a certain commuter...From what I gathered from his dad, he failed the sim portion but dont know exactly what he kept messing up on bc he didnt talk about it.....Jtrain, I told you about this guy that one night in AIM and he ended up not making it....Oh well i dont wish that on anyone, but if you continue to study and memorize the profiles and scenarios is it still pretty easy to wash out? I dont know what airline training is like yet, but I hope to find out within the next month or two when i apply.....
 
Don't forget that your interview isn't over until your probationary year is up, either:).

You'll be fine... study hard, work on your flows/callouts, and armchair fly when you're not in the sim.

Airline groundschool is a breeze if one has graduated college with a four year degree.

The study techniques you use to get your degree, you will use to pass the groundschool classes.

:yeahthat: :rawk: :rawk: :rawk: May 5th cant come fast enough, im done this friday at about 3:00 so then a week of drinking and getting all of the college out of my system......man it flew by
 
May 12th baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The past 4 years have flown by! I can't wait to completely focus on flying now, and not flying/communication studies lol.

The two people I know that washed out were in SIM or IOE. The company bounced one in SIM and the other in IOE after nearly 3 tries in IOE. The automation is what killed both people. They just didn't get the autopilot and/or the FMS

Seggy is correct. If you have good study habits from college you should have no problem getting through ground. I would say the hardest ground school to get through is the first one. After that you kind of know what to really focus on in the future..
 
doug was telling me what his systems oral was like as well as some of the other checkrides like his sim checkride tonight etc...and i was thinking holy cow.. i could never pass something like that. knowing you have to understand the books inside out and recite them word for word would do it in for me right there cuz i'm the type of person that likes to "talk it out" and not verbatim.

plus...i can understand an 8 hr scantron type of exam...but 2.5 hr ORAL exam where it's verbatim AND 100% passing or 100% failing?! i'd be pooped after 20 minutes.. haha

holy moly... i don't know how you guys do it.
 
Just gotta be prepared!

Tune out of the real world, tune in to the world of whatever plane you're flying into and KNOCK THE BOTTOM OUT OF IT.

You'll do fine.

Too many people don't take qualification training seriously, which is another reason why I'm blogging mine at http://76school.flyblog.com so you can see what it's like in the real world.

Too many people show up hoping that they're going to be spoonfed or that the evaluator is going to think a memory item is going to be as silly as YOU think it is and skip over it which isn't the case.

I digress, but focus smartly on learning the material.
 
I don't understand. What happens to you when you "washout" of training? Do you go back to your old job? Are you now unemployed? Does flunking your training make for a really bad mark on your "record", and effect your chances of employment in the future?

Yes, memorization is very important. People without College Degrees are worthless...Shouldnt you have put a ":sarcasm:" after that? People that pay for 4 years of day care at most university are no better than the other guy thats just as intellegent. Life is not about what school you went to or what Frat you were in.

I flunked out of Airnet training. That night they sent me home I was making phone calls and got a job painting for a few weeks. In that few weeks I started calling everyone I knew and even got some news here on JC. I had the option of going back to my flight school, go back home to my old flight school where I got my training done, people posted a few job postings for me here, and then finally Flight Express called. They knew about the Airnet thing and couldnt care less, however there was no interveiw either.

No he shouldnt have. If you go back and re read the post I had clearly asked a question and he answered it clearly. his post nor mine had nothing to do with being better than anyone or how cool our frats were, it was clearly a question about how hard training is, which is why he said to apply the same study habits I have for the last 4 years and ill be fine.

He didn't say that folks without degrees were worthless. He didn't say they wouldn't get through the training just fine. He just said that those who did go to college would consider the training to be a breeze. I'd have to agree. If you get a degree, you've obviously had to do some quick-paced learning. Aircraft training is much the same--it comes fast, and you don't have time to "ease into it."
