Eagle offering domicile choice/new hires

Eagle is now offering a domicile choice before training now for new hires. People have been wishing for this for a LONG time!

I'm probably the only one (no sarcasm here) that actually wants "the rock" if I choose eagle. So this isnt a big thing to me. I'm more concerned with upgrade time, and I'm also concerned that since I don't graduate till the end of May that I'll be starting right after 100's of people get jobs right before me.

The strategy is supposed to be to get hired at the very beginning of a hiring boom! Doh

Oh and RPM if I do choose Eagle, can I split the $500 with you? :)

Going to an airline based soley on upgrade time is the worst way to choose a regional. I know of guys who went to Eagle in the late 90's as their upgrade time was the fastest and they had the flow through. I went to the regional I liked best, even though the upgrade time was about 6 years.
I upgraded in the ATR in less than 18 months (would have been less if I went to the EMB-120), while guys I know who went to Eagle were sitting (they merged with a regional in the NE, can't remember the name, so things stagnated).
You NEVER know how things will pan out at a regional; maybe you will loose your first class medical; maybe the CEOs will make poor decisions; maybe AMR will farm out the work to other regionals. Choose the best run regional you can, and one that fits your personality. Then, hope for the best. Yeah, you think you will be at CAL, SWA, UPS or FedEx in a few years, but stranger things have happened.

New hires will actually get to choose their domiciles, or are they assigned before training?

supposedly you can choose your domicile now before training...you may have to defer a few class dates to get what you want depending on availability though.

I don't know what to base anything on anymore, I've changed my mind multiple times already. Choosing Eagle definitely wouldn't be solely because of upgrade time however, there are other choices for that, but I don't want to hate my life either.

What I really want to do is live in the Caribbean (st. Croix) with my girl, fly down there without putting my aviation career on hold, but I don't know how to make that happen right now. Later in life I want the freedom of being able to live almost anywhere, so the schedule/commuting ability of the "airlines" is what I'm aiming for. Otherwise I'd take a nice corporate job, but the thought of being tied down to some godaweful state like Connecticut for the rest of my life creeps me out.

I'll split it with ya....PM me your name and e-mail before you try and apply and HR will send you a message on what to do

Now THOSE are good reasons for choosing AE.

I went to an airline seminar and out of all the regionals there, the AE guys looked the most miserable. One had been there 9 years and the other had been there 12 years. Their uniforms looked like they had been ironed with a rock. Totally shabby and this look on their faces that spelled disallusionment. I applied to only the airlines that are at the top of their game right now and was offered a job at the one with the best performance track so far. Things couldn't be better. I've done a helluva lot of other jobs in my life and I knew...always knew, that flying was my bag. I just made damn sure before I committed to this life and I'm really glad I did. Its great. I have a bachelors from a great school with a really good GPA. I did the work and I'm so glad I did. I made educated choices. Make the same one before choosing a regional based on domiciles. That seems to be the modus operandi of young applicants. I.E. Skywest is cool because its in the mountains and there's not much IFR flying, etc... PLEASE.

One man's treasure is another man's garbage.

Exactly, only YOU can decide that.... for me LAX is the best choice because i'm a west coastie....its WARM, the flying out there is beautiful and the overnights are in places like San Diego, Santa Barbara, Vegas, Monterey....(places people pay a lot of money to visit)

I dunno, overnights in Salina, KS or middle of nowhere, freezing ass cold South Dakota just isn't very appealing to me.

I would say Miami and Dallas are also very popular bases we have... a lot of people trying to transfer into those

how is the boston base? any chance of getting in there right out of training or shortly after ? i'd like to head back up north east, boston or ny

Yes, see the first post....newhires get base preference.

Boston is the most junior Jet base anyway...so it shouldn't be any problem.

All I know about Boston is they do a lot of the Emb135 flying...its a smaller base, mostly short routes...it is the most junior base.... quickest place to get off reserve if your in the Jet.

RPM or any other Eagle pilots,

Another domicile/equipment question for you: Let's say I get hired and I choose "The Rock" as my domicile. I think it would be great for a year or so, then transfer to LAX, which I think would be a pretty easy commute from Sacramento.

Second part of the question is, what planes fly out of SJU and LAX? Is it only the ATR out of SJU? I don't care which plane I fly, in fact I would prefer to start in a prop, but if I start in the prop in SJU, are there ATRs out of LAX or would I have to try to bid a new plane and get re-trained to be able to fly out of LAX? What are the rules for how long you have to commit to a certain location/equipment?

Right now, I have 700/25 and should have 800/100 by this summer.

Thanks

Rob

Miami and the rock is ATR

LAX is Saab 340 and Emb145's

You would have to change equipment....there is a 1 year seat lock but you can't go prop f/o to prop f/o...you would have to bid the EMB to get LAX.

Anyone know how bad of a commute it would be form LAX to SEA? I have always thought working for AE would be cool but hated the thought of getting stuck in Dallas or something like that. I could do LAX. How long do you stay on reserves in LAX? Anything closer to SEA for AE? :)

right now in LA they are so short staffed there isn't any reserve pilots....

so reserve time is 0. It will probably go up to a couple months though once we start getting some more guys in LA.
