United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby has pitched a combination with American Airlines Group to numerous U.S. government officials, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Under any other administration, I'd say no chance in hell. But who knows with these guys.

Hypothetically speaking, if this were to happen, I'd have to imagine there would be a lot of divestures in areas where both airlines already dominate - like Chicago.

Yep. As long as they buy a good 8 figures of the next cryptocurrency Trump introduces and each airline awards him a peace prize, it will be approved.

I hope this is just some pocketsand to get people talking about something other that the price of Jet-A.

Speaking of Jet-A prices, they might actually present a real reason to allow such a big merger. If the oil crisis gets bad enough the airlines may not be able to survive without some major cuts and consolidation.

I just don’t see how you make hub and spoke work with a merger this size. There’s just so many overlapping bases.
