KDVT Piper Crash into Yard

Yeppp. I’ve got a friend who lives off Cave Creek and Deer Valley that is absolutely losing their mind over this incident and wants the airport shutdown, has been texting me asking “do you know what just flew over my house it was way too loud and didn’t sound right” and told me I don’t understand because I’m not in the flight path of the airport…I’m like I live 2 miles from Luke 🤦🏽‍♂️

City of Mesa voting this month on a $20 fee per landing at FFZ

Had the same thing happen a few weeks back in my neck of the woods. I was like, ‘oh this ole thang?’

AllATPs won’t like that

We had a situation at our local field that the local airport group tried to manage, and it was impossible. The schools they were trying to work with weren't uncooperative, they were downright hostile from the word go. Feds tossed their hands up and said "it's a non-towered field, so as long as they fly left traffic, we can't do anything".

Both schools flamed out, and left students in the lurch, soooo....Karma, but bad for the students.

Unless things have changed they don’t make it to FFZ much. They will just keep buzzing my house down by IWA instead.

CAE on the other hand has their base at FFZ..

Long, long ago, but in the almost 2 years I instructed for ATP out of Willie, I only landed 1 at FFZ with a student. We were coming back from an XC to Winslow and Zuni (or maybe ABQ?) and I decided to drop in for some night pattern work since tower was closed and it was quiet. On the first touch and go we almost ran into a Sherriff's department helicopter that was doing NVG hover work and not talking (or listening) on CTAF. Bailed out of there and beat up the pattern at home instead.

Same. Did my training at IWA with ATP and only went to FFZ in my night time Valley Rally, otherwise ATP just never went there. Then I instructed at CAE and learned how chaotic Falcon could be!

city of Mesa is only going to screw themselves if they institute this and people stop coming to the airport. FFZ is never going to be more than a small GA field, as it’s landlocked and has zero room to extend either of its already-short runways. The giant Boeing/MD company there already has their own heliport, so anything happening to FFZ airport proper, is of no effect to them. Just GA operators that will be affected.

They do the same thing in the City of Maricopa group. I’m not even in it but somehow I see the posts.

Definitely not Panam/transpac/aeroguard. Looks like a private owner. Listening to the audio was interesting. Lost power and losing altitude but not declaring an emergency.

I was out doing some night bounces for currency in the Bo, and there was a, ah, "turbine training mission" going on that was doing some really random stuff. Kept an eye on it, and did my 3 and called it a night.

Mulled over calling the boss of the plane and saying "errrr, WTF, O?", but ultimately decided it wasn't any of my business. Not big on dropping dime unless it's a big deal.

Welcome to the standard of many civilian pilots hesitant to ever declare an emergency to ATC, no matter what is going on. ATC will often declare an emergency for them, which while nice, is a complete failure on the PIC to exercise the “IC” part of PIC.

Avi Suquila?

Ak Chin airport, northwest of CGZ. The former Phoenix Regional airport. Owned by the tribe, and east of the town of Maricopa, but doesn’t really affect them as its pattern isn’t really near the city.

When I used to fly, I remember that it can get pretty busy out there, with all the Career Track, Sioux and LUXVAN call signs, and the weekend warriors, etc beating up the pattern. I've been extended all the way back to holding over the Maricopa racetrack, rather frequently and also over parts of the city waiting for the traffic pattern to lighten at Ak Chin.

On another note, that airport is crazy, I had to tell my then instructor that that I don't feel safe flying there. Almost mid aired twice. One guy was 45 into the pattern and I was on downwind and I had to take evasive action. Another time I was in the pattern, downwind again, and another guy also not talking and was above us and just descended. I had zero clue where he came from, he dust dropped down in front of us. I had to do a hard right to not rear end him. No thx. That's a crazy busy ass non towered airport

For as small as it is, Ak Chin does get very packed with the training traffic. I think there’s around 8 or 9 different flight school callsigns roaming around the metro PHX area and into southern AZ. if i want to shoot an instrument approach or work a traffic pattern at night and not be bothered by anyone else, doing the VOR/DME 22 to E63/Gila Bend Muni or working their pattern at night, since the pilot controlled runway lighting is inop, is easy. Or heading 5 miles south and using the runway at KGXF, but there areno instrument approaches to there.

The winds also play a huge factor out there too. Lots of go arounds there, which further messes up the already pretty tight pattern.
