Flight Bags

I’m at 10 years on a light weight LW bag, if it holds out another 10.5 ill be happy to just throw it in the dumpster ( contents included ) as I’m leaving the airport after my retirement flight.
🙂
[ disclaimer ] As long as my health, and employment hold out.

I picked up a StrongBags 22 last year and so far so good. Definitely lighter than the LuggageWorks but somewhat flimsy feeling compared to that tank of a bag. Been meaning to get around to sending my old LW back for overhaul so I have a good backup if the StrongBags craps out on me.

I went back to travel pro. Cheap and easy.
How do you like it? We get them issued for work at Brown. I’m not a fan of the lack of side pockets nor having a bag sitting outside on a rack that looks like 150 other bags. Last thing I need at 3am if for someone to get my stuff mixed up with theirs. I got one I never used and I’m due for another one now.

I’m a Tumi snob.

Fight me.
Captain I’m buddy bidding with has a Tumi. If I was in the terminals most I’d probably get one. He makes it look easy pushing it around on 4 wheels.

I’ll also never forgive myself for not taking advantage of the Tumi store sale in DTW during COVID.

Although I’ve parked my LW bag for 7yrs, i am enjoying my Away suitcase every time I travel. I’ll use my LW stealth electronic tote for the top. No side pockets, but it’s made very well and durable. A magic eraser works great for the scuffs. ✌️

I've had mine almost 6 years and it's going strong. So far the only thing I've had to replace was a set of wheels but that's super easy at home with a screw driver and a wrench. I was always worried about the telescoping handle but it's been solid so far. Not commuting on RJs and not checking the bag regularly probably helps.

I do need to find a good backpack for my second bag.
This has been the bane of my existence, I always end up tearing them up after a year or so. Had the Aerocoast backpack thing and liked it a lot but it absolutely disintegrated. The plastic handle things were the first to go from being tugged on when it was hooked to my roller, then eventually the bottom got a hole in it from dragging on the ground/escalators. Got a Herschel backback from REI and the organization is nice, but I feel like it barely holds anything.

Same deal. Bought the Carbon. I honestly can’t tell that it’s lighter. But I carry way too much junk on my trips.

My biggest complaint is that it went from left handed to right. The main bag flap (compared to my 2 old 10+ yr Stealths) opens up opposite to my old one, which means that my muscle memory of dragging into a hotel room, Opening up the luggage rack, and throwing up my bag is reversed now. Very annoying. And I have to think about it now.

And I hate that rubber handle. The darn thing moves all the time changing the grip. And my cooler bag gets jammed on the rubber all the time. Great Bag otherwise. I should send at least one of 2 old ones in for a refurb.

3 more years down the road I still have the same complaints. The handle is still moving around and my food bag still jams up... I never sent in any of my old ones, but now that I'm gonna be sent back to prison in JFK I think that I will refurb one of them to take back and forth with me if I need a commuter bag.

Weirdly enough, I still haven't figured out that left/right flap thing... I always set it on the luggage rack the wrong way in hotels.

Oh, and the "new"(er) J hook that comes with the LW bags... much cheaper than the old one that I've been moving bag to bag for the last 15 years.

Bag has held up well, but I don't drag it through the snow or anything. I've been flying mostly one-and-done red eyes for the last few years. Still on the orig. wheels. Give it a year of being based in JFK and I'll be back to a biannual replacement cycle again.

I don't think I can tell that it's lighter than the metal frame one. So, was it worth the extra 150? I don't know. And will the carbon hold up to the NE weather... well, I'll be able to report back in a couple of years

I'll be using the LW's till I retire.

My stickers have been getting ground down a bit...

That's pretty much where I am at. Either is nice, and holds nothing, or is the opposite.
Peak Design FTW.

Though I could write a novel on the amount of backpacks I've had and still own. Currently considering a new one as well and the search is driving me bonkers. Gotta be camera friendly too obvi.
I will have to look into it. I carry a lot of stuff with me, so organization is key.

LW - 15 years old, with one refurbishment. I wish I could have put a fit bit on it, to see how many miles I’ve rolled that thing.

My biggest issue with my LW is the feet have worn off, so it's always tipping over. Might go to a metal shop and have something welded on

You win the internet today.

I totally forgot about that with all my old bags - i literally ground off the front feet thanks to the miles and miles I've dragged it through the various terminals. That bothers me a gazillion times more than any ripped ballistic nylon or zipper shenanigans.

It really is annoying. Trying to check into a hotel and your bag keeps tipping over.

Considering the whole luggageworks is bolted together chunks of aluminum extrusion, I’m sure a trip to Home Depot and some basic tools could fabricate you some new feet.
Probably. The feet are a molded part of the base. It would probably take a little more effort than I really want to put into it.

Fight me.

If I see you taking up twice your god given space side rolling a 4 roller bag next to you like a Karen, we're gonna have a terminal fight derg :)

Last time I had to fly commercial, my literal text chain words to my friends joining me at the lounge were "these 4 wheel bag people need to be punched in the throat"
