Alaska Hawaiian Merger

I'm so much dumber than most all of you with respect to contract language. I didn't take issue with any of it, and liked the section 24 add. What do you think? (very honestly just asking)
I think it’s a good shoot for the moon list. Will we get all of it? You never do. I kind of have some opinions on what’s worth spending negotiation capital on.

I honestly don’t get the beard thing. Most pilots (no matter what they or their wives think) do not look good with facial hair in a pilot uniform. :)

Not a fan of seniority based trip pickup (premium). I like first come, first serve.

Hawaiian has a similar system to what you guys have... but better(ish). Normal open time plus premium (150%) open time is first come first serve. Scheduling has the option of offering 200% for certain pairings that they just have to get covered, in seniority order.
This needs to be industry leading, not just allegedly taking the best from either contract. The language used in email and podcasts doesnt inspire much confidence but expectations are very high.

I think the MEC hasn't done a great job with the messaging, or pilots just aren't listening and are hearing what they want to hear.

This is a JCBA, not a Section 6. Plan accordingly.

EDIT: And industry leading in what? Both contracts already have multiple "industry leader" provisions. Are you willing to give up some of those to get industry leading provisions from other contracts? Or do you want everything in the contract to be industry leading?

there’s zero seniority consideration at any time in the open time pickup process? not even outside >24hr to report?

At AS?

Correct, doesn’t matter when. Opentime is first come, first serve.

Done automatically via crew access. Whoever got fastest fingers. :)

If same day trip, or next day trip, you have to fill out a form called a manual trip inquiry. And that too is time stamped, first come first serve.

Not a single mention of any improvement for reserve. No mention of preserving HAL 18 days off in a row. No mention of circadian flips. No mention of red eye override.

Most improvements seem to be for widebody: offline DH language etc.

The Duck has a point. This is a JCBA, not a full on section 6.

How many forgot what the VX/AS JCBA was? Slapped on the AS contract with only 3 sections to improve on (we picked scope, pay, and scheduling). At the time there was an arbitration backstop. In the end we got zero scope, middle of the road pay rate, and barely any scheduling changes.

I think this is the first merger for a lot of people (Beefy especially), and they are clueless about this process. They have a huge wishlist for the contract and are getting angry they won’t all be addressed.

Actually that's a 737 issue. You guys have an outstanding grievance about booking business class seats on OAL deadheads. Hawaiian has solid language (that's followed by the company) in the PWA already.

HAL gives 18 days off in a row? For who?

I assume that you meant reserves (since that’s all YOU care about) can run 18 days ON reserve in a row and have 12 days off in a row that way.

Yeah my bad. I mistyped: I meant 18 days on HAL reserve.

I've been DH almost every reserve block and I have DH on SWA once. From SJC to LAS. That's during almost 3 years of reserve.

Bruh it says right there they want to preserve the HAL reserve bidding options.

Needs to have a limit on mandatory short call conversions tho.

It's lunacy it was set up as it is now to begin with. Zero protections from unlimited conversions. Zero protections from circadian flips.

Hey man, I wasn’t around to vote on it. Seems like a bunch of folks just saw the $$$ signs and either didnt read the fine print, or didn’t care since the vast majority of pilots aren’t reserves. There’s probably a lesson in there for this process, should we choose to see it.
