More 737 News

If you put a gun to my head and said “name the average Vref of the 737 or I’ll kill you” I’d probably die. We have way too many different variants and loads. But 140’s sounds about right much of the time. Easily into the 160’s with gusty winds and the appropriate additive though. I did learn a neat thing in recurrent this year. Your V2 speed is pretty close to your TO GW, if you move the decimal place 3 left. Not an exact science, or even something that could qualify as a rule-of-thumb, but more of an observation that one can use to sanity check the V speeds

I had 180+ with additive going into MIA a few months ago in a heavy Ocho. FO was like that seems too fast, I don’t think I’m going to fly the additive.

“Dude…it’s not optional. That’s just how it’s done.” Wasn’t enough margin between high and low speed with the gusts so flaps 30 wasn’t an option.

I've been on the second jumpseat a handful of times. Once was (I swear) something like ORD-ANC. (It may have actually been ORD-SEA)

I don't actually mind it too much, but I'm smol. Or, well, I used to be. Now I'm fat. :(

But I'll take it—any seat I can get. I don't care if they want me to sit in the lav.

With a long runway and no urgency to exit,

I would love to hear the controllers at any of the NY ariports if you tried that. :)

Huh. That's really interesting. I'm gonna make a note of that and see if that applies on the Canabus. Will report back.

I saw 179 last week. The amazing thing is how the brakes just take it. I swear the thing beats the ACARS numbers by more than the buffer.

The few times I’ve ever seen hot brakes haven’t been from a heavy landing or a short runway, it’s been one of those followed by a long taxi where somebody rides the brakes. Narita in summer comes to mind where you land on the short runway and then taxi 47 miles
