It’s sad because it’s true.

You guys laugh, but this phraseology is standard at any naval air station today. You say "[insert stereo routing] clearance on request". They say "I have your clearance on request". And then a couple mins later depending on how busy they are, they say "XXX I have your clearance, advise when ready to copy". And then you say "ready to copy".....and then they read it to you. I'd be interested to know what takes several minutes on their end, perhaps it is just to play the game?
I knew it! I highly suspected there was an origin in military lingo somewhere. The last guy who did this with me was, in fact, a retired Navy helicopter pilot. 25 years flying for the Navy, really sharp and professional guy, I knew there had to be more to the story.

When I worked for a short time at LA approach back in the 80's, I worked the Flight Data position. I had access to flight data strips with IFR routings. If there was an IFR departure off of HHR, TOA or SMO, ATC would call me on the "landline" and I'd read them the info off the flight data strip. In turn, they would transmit the info to the aircraft as their clearance. That's the delay when you call for your clearance.

8hr MX delay, into a 23.50 push time…writing it old skool wraps me in a warm primacy blanket, where I know I’m not likely to write something down wrong.

Nearly 11,000hrs and still practicing the basics.

@DPApilot also laughed tho

Do you guys have ACARS and CPDLC? It looks like printer paper. So you made cliff notes for stuff you can just print or verify from CPDLC, that doesn't change unless a new clearance is issued?

EPC has no CPDLC, and it was 23.50 local…so call up Jax Ctr on taxi out. So nope, can’t print that off.

Didn’t they have tablets for copying the clearance on the original 737?

Every single video by every organization in college was made to “Learning to Fly.”

As for my opinion on influencers in general, it’s no different than the guy at the bar in a Boeing hat that needs everyone to know they’re a pilot. They are just more annoying and have a bigger audience.

Foo Fighters "Learning to Fly", Tom Petty "Learning to Fly" or Pink Floyd "Learning to Fly?"

Because all three are really good songs.

That’s exactly what my yoke clip looks like.

This thread is the first time I’d ever even heard of CRAFT

I like the draw function on the flight plan app. I can just high light or write up the relevant information, all on the iPad. With my finger. I write down the max release weight and the min fuel because I have to say what it is.

Although I usually am landing with at least 8K if not more. Sometimes its crazy how much fuel they are giving us.

Yeah but once you verify it in the route page why even think about it again?

Magenta line goes brrrrrrrrrrr

After I release my box of slugs into the flight deck during first CA pee break, I like to insert waypoints with funny names into RTE 1. I don't execute, but when they get back I say "hey we got a re-route, its in the box, you want me to execute?" And they always say yes. It's a fun game that I think most people get a kick out of.
