I think CC is implying that influencers are suffering from narcissistic personality disorder. That said, I think they're suffering from the same "get rich quick" mentality that drives most of the scammers and scammed in this country, and that's wholeheartedly endorsed as a way to get in to the "winning side," the "big league," etc.

In my opinion, it's a symptom of the collision of barely-regulated end-stage capitalism, the concept of unlimited caveat emptor, and prosperity doctrine. (And "celebrity")

Acro got it, narcissistic personality disorder. It just seems to reek of it. Camera constantly focused on their face / body, often alone, posing or just talking on endlessly.

I don’t get it. I know some make good money doing it, but still just reeks of something wrong from a narcissism point of view.
