New Republic Airlines dispatcher training program

I am surprised that the FAA would approve this direct pipeline. I'm not opposed to it, just surprised.

Not too different from Delta having theirs. The main difference is that this is paid from what I am seeing. As well as I believe Delta has an interview at the end of the certification as well as to get into the program.

That being said, this is an interesting move and will surely bring a lot of interest to new prospective dispatchers.

So this is republic saying "hey wanna be a dispatcher? come train through our school and get paid to do it. then once you complete training and get your dispatching license, you'll immediately begin to work for us." sound about right?

Pretty sure they had a pilot program to do the same thing so I can't say I'm surprised.

Seems better than their pilot program. IIRC, you still had to pay a lot of money for their pilot training up until becoming an instructor and earning your time.

Even with their latest pay raise mgt still ca not retain people. It is a revolving door operation, always has been, always will be. They do not want people to make a career out of Republic. Here is 5 cents yeah 5 cents. It just shows what they of you. God bless

No regional should be viewed as a career if you’re under 40-45. If you’re at a regional more than 4-5 years, then majors will start to wonder

No they won't.
They might. It takes about 1-2 years at most regionals to move up, some places even after 6 months. So if you’re still a dispatcher at 5 years and everyone else applying from there that has 2-3 years is a coordinator or sector manager then it looks like you got skipped over.

The last thing management (of any organization) wants is a top-heavy organization with the entire seniority list camped out at the top of the pay scale.

Envoy for example has about 15-20 guys of 10+ years (believe even 17-20 are at 5 years, so you can see the drop off in terms of experience). 20 and below on the seniority list are 3 years and less. All the ones going to AA are in the 3 years or less group along them being are the classroom trainers, OJT trainers, reserve EQ coords, etc on extra responsibilities.

EQ Coords you see people with 10+ years stuck with no upward movement because the top 10 or so slots are all 20+ years at envoy.

You should be an account.

Organizations pay for experience which is gained through longevity.
No right minded manager wants the daily operations ran by a green horn so it looks better on yearly budget.
There are many career companies that are top heavy with employees.
Would you quit your job so it looks better on the books?

You're using logic... That's not allowed in airline management.

Applied, interviewed and got accepted. We start the program in a couple weeks. Jeppesen (FAA Part 65 DX School) is providing the On-Site training for test prep (Written and O&P) (At Republics Training Facility). Not a bad gig especially since I worked there for about 10 years prior to this point. Going to be good to be back for sure.

I got curious about the $20/hr starting pay they list and what is typical. The BLS site has pretty detailed information:

They indicate a median wage is $24.68/hr, with the mean wage for scheduled air transport at $29.16/hr.

The BLS job is "Airfield Operations Specialist," but the description sounds essentially like a dispatcher. What surprised me is that the most-populous state for 'em is California (16% of jobs), followed by Texas, Florida, New York, and ... Tennessee (3%).

Looks like the program is open again.

Does anyone know how open they are to hiring from out of state? From what I've seen, they really make sure to reference that it's the only dispatch school in Indiana, which feels like they're trying to get people that are local. Have they been successful in that?
