Spirit cancellations

I just got blasted for the mere mention of it without any requisite snarky editorial comments, in text.

Protective…

80% of the schedule cancelled today!
Well a quick look at flight aware shows 52% but yeah….. it’s bad out there right now. I’ll be wearing a sweatshirt over my uniform shirt when I get to the airport today. Still don’t understand why it got so bad but the news did say the pilots were on strike. Figured I would have known if I was on strike though.

On Thursday morning, about 80% of all U.S. flight cancellations came from Spirit, according to flight-tracking site FlightAware.

Sorry- this was where I saw the 80% number.

Don’t know why snarky remarks aren’t allowed. I think spirit is a legit target like any other airline.

it has been interesting waiting for no news and no communication and trying to negotiate with the hotel to let you stay another night after days with nothing from the company.

dealing with the pax has been hit or miss. They are all incredibly angry and upset. I did take a calculated risk to talk to passengers at the gate (with no agent present of course) and found out that they were just happy to have anyone from spirit talk to them and to vent on. even if it was bad news or I couldn’t answer any of their questions.

I did put it out there (standing at the front of the passenger cabin) once the flight was boarded that I was sorry for the delays and cancellations but we as crewmembers are just as upset and frustrated at the delays and cancellations too. And for this one flight (of the two I have been able to actually fly on this 4 day trip) my flight attendants were not the appropriate target for their grievances and I wasn’t going to put up with any one giving any of my flight attendants any issues. And now that we’re on a serviceable plane, no maintenance issues, no duty time issues, no fuel issues and no ramp issues for this one flight, we were finally going to be on our way to wherever we were going.

On time has been out the window since the whole thing started. A small “win” is just to get a completion - any completion.

My next step is to just jumpseat home on the last day of my trip if I still havent heard anything by then.

maybe start putting that alternate career plan /furlough/airline liquidated plan that I hatched up last summer into effect if the airline falls apart permanently.

Was this purely an IT issue or staffing? If it’s IT,it’s not out of the realm of plausibility to rule out some sort of ransomware attack. It’s happened recently with other carriers.

Nobody is going out of business at this moment.

But there will be mergers.
