Studying is Boring

I have the concentration of a gnat when it comes to reviewing systems, company documentation and other airplane stuff.

what do you folks do to stay focused?

When I was in flight school, I often studied after work, late at night/earlier in the morning depending on your perspective. I was often tired. Lo-fi music channel on YT was my life. The music is very mellow and not distracting, making for good background music. Which was HUGE for me, because I have really bad A.D.D. Hope this helps.

When I did my upgrade last year, I took a cockpit poster and started writing notes all over it, what this switch does, what the fault lights mean, ect ect.
I still have that for the 145 and 120 here somewhere.

That switches and lights app is fantastic too.

I'm a coffee shop junkie in part because I have trouble studying at home or in the hotel. Squirrel! So if I go out it sort of forces me to have a purpose and of course I'm eventually mega cracked out on the coffee so there's that.

Why are you up before 10am?
I'm a morning person. And I like it that way, honestly. Give me all the 0515 reports, I'll be fine. (This time last year started with the stationary bike followed by "death by conference call" starting 10am.)

I don't mind flying a redeye in the middle of or at the end of a trip as I've got no trouble knocking off in a hotel room pretty much whenever, but my "normally awake" hours are from 7ish am to 10ish pm if there are no other constraints.

Ouch. Way too early. But my consistent redeye schedule has made me even more of a night person.

My schedule keeps shifting which may contribute to the lack of focus. And then I sit for 4 days in a hotel with no concept of the passage of time - so that doesn't help either. But, I'm grinding through. I figure I'll be in one of the next 3 upgrade classes for the triple, so I'd better be ready, right?

I lost the ability to sleep past 8am - regardless of when I went to bed - around age 30.

Right now, I'm up by 0500 to get out the door by 0530 to meet my students by 0645. And I usually wake up before my alarm.

But as the How Not To Be Your Parents guy in the Geico ad says, "You woke up early. No one cares."

Ooooh, the Early Bird breakfast special is your friend.
