Why I Left an Airline Pilot Career

Even with his awful response, Trump may have benefited from the Pandemic anyway. Democrats didn't do nearly as much door-to-door canvassing as usual this year, because of the Pandemic; while Republicans mostly did.
Yes, he actually got some electoral votes despite being the worst period president period ever period.

This pretty much sums it up.
and the worst part is he actually believes this. He’s been consistent in these thoughts since spring. He’s not trolling like CC.
I don’t know... There really are people that dumb and/or demented. After all, look at this psycho:
There are also tons of “COVID is a liberal hoax!” idiots on APC as well.

Concerning thing is, these people vote!

the fact that someone believes that EVERY single country (enemy and allies) plus every industry, all teamed up to help the Democrats remove Trump from office is staggering. I dont know if it’s sad, funny, or frightening that there are people that believe this. He’s far from alone.

Not sure why I’m tagged here, but I’m not trolling. What did I say in this thread?

The 1 person dying every 90 seconds in LA county and my friends in Spain, Ireland, ect (as in, you know, not part of US political agendas) might disagree with you there...

Only in America can a global pandemic be going on and people here seriously think the entire earth is crisis acting, grounding flights, closing borders, ect to appease a US political party. If you'd like, I can get you in touch with some nurses at hospitals with 0% ICU capacity so you can convince them the pandemic is over. I'd love to laugh my ass (you can totally say ass on here) off to it.

Like, seriously, can you imagine people saying, "Well the NTSB said the said MCAS is to blame for the 737MAX crashes, but they're working with the dems, it's really a freak run away trim incident that just happened to occur twice in a few months time. There is nothing wrong with the 737MAX, don't listen to the professionals at the NTSB, my Uncle Ted worked for Boeing for 3 years as a security guard in the employee lot at RNT and he said this is all a liberal hoax to knock Boeing down a peg and help out Airbus for globalization to steal American jobs". That's you. That is how you sound.

If you aren't a medical professional on scene at a hospital with a bad outbreak of COVID watching people die of pneumonia like symptoms, then you don't have a leg to stand on, bud. Listen to the professionals.
I actually know some WN peeps that think the extended max grounding was an inside job with Delta and the FAA administrator.

I disagree Todd. You always say we need to meet these people where they are. That includes accepting the fact that some of them are bat • crazy.

Unfortunately, there is no way to reach a common ground with a person such as that.

There are some who are bat—— crazy. But those are incredibly few and far between. I’m convinced the average person who says such garbage doesn’t really believe it.

I mean, this is the crony-capitalism administration, but Senate Commerce's recent report detailing exactly how cozy the Southwest certificate management office is with the airline it regulates (from the party in power, who put Dickson at the helm) should pretty much shatter that concept.

Still not sure if you agree or disagree.

Thanks G' Dub'ya.

I would also point out it wasnt but a few years ago the FAA clothes-lined SWA because they had some mx thing they didnt comply with.

Keep in mind the certificate management office did exactly no engineering work or oversight. All they did was sign off on the DER/DARs and their reports. In a game of knowledge and expertise the FAA is comically underweight and gave up the fight to remain competitive 15 years ago (though I admit I agreed with their decision on how to embrace this brave new world). I know of at least two guys named in that report who are regularly calling on a retired engineering expert to run things by him to see if what they're proposing makes sense. It's cartoonish.

The FAA is too stupid and can't attract the talent ($$$) to combat or even start to fix this crap. From now on it's going to take ten years to certify if everyone does a good job and doesnt cut corners. The 797 is about 797 years away from certification.

Slashes funding then points and goes “see! Government sucks!”

Exactly, and you and I both understand that much better than most airline pilots.

Tell me which recession, killed off business travel in the past? Video teleconferencing has existed, and been used by Fortune 500 companies since the mid ‘80s. When this is over, and it may take some time, but business travel will be back. While the nerds spending their days coding in front of a screen may be content in isolation, the sales people, the auditors, production managers will be back traveling.

Tell me where I said business travel is killed off?

It’s not worth debating. Basically I’m gonna sit back and wait for the economy to melt down or rebound.

Looks like I’ve got a job for the next 6 months.

After that no idea what will happen...

Possibly 6 months longer than yesterday.

I think people forget that most airlines that don't haul boxes (but, maybe even them) are one sideways fart away from imminent doom even when things are "normal," and they're most assuredly not "normal" right now.

Why 6 months?

Who knows what happens after that... I’m in the bottom 400 at Eskimo. I’m cannon fodder.

The company hasn’t had to sacrifice any pawns, yet. That’s the only reason why I’m still working.

The massive spike in bitcoin and the crumbling economy don’t really strike me as entirely promising.

The one thing making me wonder whether the economy might not collapse is a theory from Yale sociologist Nicholas Christakis. He’s studied past pandemics and how societies reacted after them, and his claim is that economic booms are usually the result of people being panicked, holed up at home, restricted in what they can do, etc. for a long period of time. He’s basically predicting an economic boom over the next decade starting after widespread vaccination is complete. I’m skeptical, but he’s hardly a fringe kook.

I can see how that’s possible. Still I’m not gonna go out and buy a bunch of stonks
