Morning hike in the Bavarian Alps

Please!
Let us know where these wonderful pictures came from. Washington Monument, I got; Cherry Blossoms were a good guess. But for those of us more domestically situated, please share your travel destinations. We're with you in spirit, help us to know where we've been.
(Appologies to those who do; the rest of you know who you are.)

This mornings hike. Obersalzberg & Berchtesgaden Bavaria, Germany.... If I had lasted another 4 hours I'd have ended up at Kehlsteinhaus (Eagles Nest).

After this morning I have learned once and for all I would have made a terrible WWII soldier.

Have you checked out the bunkers that are in that area?

When we first moved to Germany in 95 we would often go down to Berchtesgaden and stay at the AFRC hotel there. I’m not sure what that complex is now, but right nearby was a whole bunch of WW2 bunkers that gave me the willies.

The main AFRC hotel, I believe, was renamed the Gen. Walker hotel after WWII and became the primary AFRC hotel. It was torn down in 2001.

We have spent some time in the bunkers attached to the Dokumentation Center in Obersalzberg. Next door to the hotel we stay at every year is the train tunnel that Göring would hide his art stash and the train station you see from the mountain pictures I've posted is the station Hitler used to ride into on his way to the Berghof.

It's an amazingly historical place with some of the most breathtaking natural beauty I've ever seen.

That’s the one! I didn’t know it was torn down. Was such an amazing place.

Berchtesgaden is an amazing place. Not as crowded as Garmisch, plus you have Salzburg and Königsee right nearby.

I really want to go do some hiking in Berchtesgaden National Park. My favorite treadmill in Hong Kong has a feature where it runs a video where you pretend you’re jogging in some other location. BNP is one of the options.

I usually get there around midnight, if that makes you feel any better. By the looks of it that one is all shut off for the night though, so it probably doesn’t.
Yes, that was probably 0200ish. Nice thing about this time of year is at least when we pull an all-nighter there’s daylight on the homeward leg.
