Circus Stunt Flyby in an A330

“It was a strange feeling when the A330 came right at us, as we did not know before that it would do a honorary lap,” she said, the UK’s Mirror reported.

Air Berlin said the crew had gotten permission to perform a left turn in case of an aborted landing.

“We wanted to make a mark — a dignified and emotional goodbye,” the unidentified pilot was quoted as saying by German broadcaster ZDF, Reuters reported.

Control tower personnel clapped as the plane taxied and the captain said in German that Air Berlin would “cease its long-distance flights tomorrow.”

Meh. Seems like a non-event and a subtile tribute to a long storied airline that's now gone teets up

Just watched a segment about this on the Today show. Not sure they could have done a worse job explaining it if they had tried. Managed to squeeze in a quote from an “airport worker” (not ATC) that said go-arounds are only initiated after advising/permission from staff.

Looked like 15 whole degrees of bank. While I'm sure not sanctioned, not the most extreme thing I've seen.

This is news?

Not to me. Back in the '80s, Continental 727 pilots used to bank hard left off RY26L right over the terminal here in El Paso all the time. This looks tame in comparison.
