Who here has had the experience of flying/jumpseating it?
 
I have BTW. I had the privilege of both dispatching and jumpseating on my my company's 72s for a little over a year.
 
Adler knows 727's.

I used to jump seat in PSA 727's often. The jump seat gets real uncomfortable after 60 minutes but that's okay because every time the FA comes in or someone on the flight deck needs to use the bathroom you have to fold your seat up. The other issue is you sit real high, the only time you can see something out the windshield is on final when the nose is high.

F/E for 4 years (by choice). I made it up to second from the top of the list in that seat so I could do the LAS-PHX trip. Went to the right seat for 9 years and got up into the teens on the list. Mostly -100's but we had like 12 -200's. We had a mod on the -100's to meet noise standards in Europe. It was called the QF for quiet freighter. Had Rolls Royce Tay engines and a distinctive S duct on the center engine. Initially we had no advanced navigation capability and the autopilot was always low tech. Later we got GPS and could do GPS approaches. Also got an HGS display on the Capts side and we could do CAT111A mins hand flown.

It was a great flying airplane. It could come down like a rock. They said if you could see the airport over the nose you could land on it. Not much of a performer compared to a 757 but coming from a Convair it was pretty impressive to me. Under UPS's pay scheme we made the same as the 747 guys so it was a pretty good deal. Min work for max pay is what it's all about. Now I'm a button pusher who knows just enough about the FMC to get by. Oh well. Four more years to go....
 
Three and half years on the 727. 100s, 200s, and Supers. 1200 hours right seat, 800 hours plumbing, and about 1000 hours as a pallet jack operator in the back. As @Adler says, "it was the best job I never want to have again."
 
Hey Saluki...SEMO grad here (yea, not proud but it is what it is..). I plumbed and flew f/o on the -100/200 for a very short time...my first jet (before becoming a child of the magenta). Good memories. The -200 is still one of the sexiest looking jets that ever flew.

Remember Air Illinois based in Carbondale? I started my commuter career there before their demise.

Good memories of a time when this was a career, and not just a job.
 

Not that hard to do if you weren't paying attention... Looks like someone tried to cover for it after the fact.

Normally if you saw a lot of fuel press lights on the FE panel, something was going on.

Not that I'd know anything about that, of course, you know, from reading the books...yea, that's it....
