Your source also says CNN was ranked 1st on Sunday. And Maddow was number one on Wednesday.

Daily rankings are pretty useless.

Msnbc is able to charge more than fox or CNN for ad space (because their viewers are, on average, higher earners. Does that effect the "ranking of a network?

Ah, guess I should do my research before hand as well then.... I'll just say that I'm really starting to get annoyed towards media and journalism in general. Not only the horrible coverage of aviation related issues but all of the political banter just makes me want to throw random things at my TV.

But have you? Have you thrown random things at your TV yet?

Because if you have - I think that speaks volumes to your psychological state and your inability to effectively use positive coping mechanisms. A very negative character trait I'm not too sure I'd like to see in a cockpit anywhere.

I, however, find it amazing how often people rail against journalists and our media apparatus in general - to the extent that is displayed by a growing portion of this population. To each their own.

Civic discourse is a fundamental element of a free and open society. No apology will ever be made by those who engage in it, facilitate it, or direct it. If one wishes to throw one object at another because they can't seem to just turn the TV off and go outside for a jog, a run, a beer, a round of golf, a good time with friends and associates but must resort to throwing objects like a toddler - then - hmm...the rhetoric is either severely flawed or they just might.

I don't disagree with you, but I think somebody using a figure of speech to say "cable news aggravates me" to question their mental facilities to fly an airplane are a little much. I've been disappointed at sporting events and told someone I wanted to throw a chair at my TV, but it's an obvious joke. Usually I stop caring after about 5 minutes.

That said, the standard for what qualifies as "journalism" is pretty muddled now. I can't really argue that the media isn't partly responsible for running a bunch of ridiculous fluff that makes it harder for their actual journalists to be taken seriously, but people need to be able to figure that out for themselves too. And a lot of people obviously don't have the capacity to figure out that a Twitter blowhard that ran a couple of fashion articles in the NYT is not a journalist.

The real journalists are the people actively recording everything they see and uploading it. Video can be biased no doubt when it's not shown in its entirety, but some of the biggest news during the election was when Hillary Clinton collapsed during the 9/11 memorial this year and it was multiple citizens filming her being thrown into a van. The mainstream media couldn't be bothered to follow her in any capacity at one of the biggest events before the election where there was no shortage of reporters and cameras, but sure enough it was a few average people filming the woman that was supposed to be in great health and our next POTUS start to collapse and then being tossed into a van.

Whoa, everyone is a little on edge today. But yea, since you so politely asked before questioning my psychological state it was a joke. I have not in fact thrown anything at my TV, c'mon man I'm a regional pilot, not made of money and cannot afford that many TV's..(That was sarcasm btw)

I was referring to how the media is all about sensationalism. Denzel Washing has a great quote. "If you read the newspaper you're misinformed, if you don't read it then you are uninformed". Insert mostly any media these days and that is true. The fact that we have news stations that are so politically biased isn't helping in any way.

But you don't know if they're inserting or spinning their material without some underlying evidence they present so the reader/viewer can at least verify some of it. Nothing's perfect, but video can be great, multiple videos can be best and I'll take them 9 times out of 10 over eyewitness reports.

With the 24 hr news cycle the absolute most important thing seems to be broadcasting a story regardless of whether or not it's been vetted. It's almost like there aren't any editors anymore and the reporters/producers have free reign. Got a clip from youtube? Check. Can I make this really sensational? Check. Will it advance my career? Check. Do I believe it's true? Whatever, put it on the air.

It was never great, but arguably much better. The telecommunications act of 96 allowed media cross ownership and the big companies bought almost everything up. These companies have such massive presences, internationally as well, even bloomburg had to sit on reporting that was negative or critical of China as they stood to lose too much money reporting the truth. If NBC reports something bad about China then Universals films won't collect any of the Chinese box office. It's the same with Fox and Disney who own numerous media outlets in the US as well as world wide. If Tiannamen Square happened today I doubt it would be reported on and am certain not to the extent it was back in the day.

It's hilarious how many people bitch about big corporations and then somehow believe that their favorite media outlet is immune to the wishes of their board and making money. Thankfully with the internet anyone can do a lot of research, document it and share it with so many. I'm optimistic for the future as people realize that the big media outlets mostly if not only push bs and start trusting themselves and their communities instead some wealthy, powerful folks far away who tell them what to think.
