Wow what an amazing two weeks it has been! Here is how this came about.
A friend of mine is a F/O on the Beech and was asked to sit in on the pilot interview panel a few weeks ago in LGA. At that time he walked in my resume. I was then told to apply via airlineapps.com. On September 1 I received an email saying I was to interview in Manassas, Virginia on September 7th. It was karma as September 7th was my 23rd birthday. During the time I got the email to the time I interviewed I cut down on my instructing and studied my A$$ off. On September 7th I flew down to Virginia. Got picked up in the van at DCA with about 8 or 9 other pilot applicants. Took the 45 min van drive to HQ where we were met by Mr. Chuck Colgan and some other HR represenatives. An intro of the company was given along with a Q & A session. They are a FAST growing company and need pilots ASAP with all the new contracts and routes they are getting. Took the written and then we were brought in to be interviewed. I interviewed twice. Just be yourself in any interview you go and DO NOT LIE! At Colgan they were looking at the person and how they would react. Be prepared to back yourself up with your answers. After the interview I was then asked to be drug tested.
During lunch I met Heath from on here! I knew who he was from his blog and picture and introduced myself to him. It is funny how encounters like this happen. It also goes to show you how great this site is for aspiring pilots. Thats a
BIG thanks to Doug and Kristie.
After the drug test we were offered a sim time on September 8th at LGA. The sim was fun. The sim instructor was really laid back and wanted to see if you were trainable and have the basic skills to build upon. Took about a half hour to brief and then we went into two groups. I was in the second group, went first, and was done.
Then the waiting started. It SUCKED to wait till Friday once Friday came an email saying they are reviewing the files and will let us know on Monday (hence the looooongest weekend thread). Monday came no word, then yesterday I got the phone call from my buddy at Colgan saying Mr. Colgan called my friend to tell me the good news that I was hired!
On my application I had:
555 Hours Total Time
107 Hours Multi-engine Time
I am so excited and fortunate to be working at Colgan, I have a good friend there that will be upgrading soon and it looks like we will have the opportunity to work together. The people I have met there and the other pilots I interviewed with makes me happy knowing I will be working with great people and for a great company. I am being placed on the Beech 1900D! Can't wait to
HAND fly that plane all up and down the Northeast corridor especially in the winters
The ability to be at Colgan and upgrade in a year and a half is AWESOME! My goal is to upgrade to captain by 2007!
A dream came true for me yesterday. It took me 17 months and 2 days from the time I started my training till the time I had a call from an airline offering me a job.
ALL OF THIS WAS DONE PART 61!!!!!!!
The first thing for those aspiring out there to understand is
HOW VALUABLE THIS WEBSITE IS! A big thanks to Doug and Kristie for the work they do on here and the information I used from here to apply. Its the best aviation website out there!
