Rank the regionals

While I think there will be some demand for 50 seaters for a few more years, that market does seem to be shrinking. The dual class aircraft are more profitable and eventually the 50 seat market will shrink more with the adsb requirement starting in 2020 I believe. So I can see where aircraft type could be a factor on deciding where to take a regional dispatch job if one had multiple options.

Feel free to correct any or all of that if I am wrong, but that is my .02

Shrink, yes. But there are still entirely 50 seat operators around like ZW and Piedmont will likely be all 50 seaters after the Dash phases out. You also have operators that are largely, but not exclusively 50 seat operators like Expressjet.

I agree with this assessment. Also figure that UA just signed over like what 40 XRJ's to C5 along with a contract that gives them UAX flying for I want to say 4 years? Anyone from C5 on here that can comment on that? So I agree that 50 seater flying ops will shrink but I think it will be at a slow pace. Especially if fuel prices skyrocket again. With this industry you just never know.

If I could toot my own regional's horn, Republic is an extremely good regional for several reasons. Only regional with access to non-rev benefits on all three major carriers. Great airplanes - we've parked our Q400s and ERJ-145s - leaving E170s. Our routes are great. A MIA pilot base means we get to dispatch to the Caribbean, Cuba, Mexico, Central America, and South America. We also just had a brand new SOC built which is, quite frankly, awesome. https://my.matterport.com/show/?m=9fxViaXbNvw The test will be the new contract we begin to negotiate next year. Hopefully we hold the line and get something decent.

How was it dispatching the Q400's? The 2's can be a pain but the 3's are a dream. I'll be sad to see them go.

Actually, Skywest has flight benefits on DL, AA, UA, and AS. Skywesters, please correct me if I'm wrong....

Ok that walk through is pretty cool, not going to lie. Republic would be cool, too bad they aren't hiring atm lol. How're you guys doing after the Ch. 11?

Quite honestly, this is the calmest I've ever seen the airline. Pilots are pretty satisfied after their most recent contract finally pays them a livable wage. Dispatch is a bit restless, but that can be expected at the end of a union contract. The people I work with are experienced and great to work with. Company is getting new airplanes delivered, and we're decently staffed. Indianapolis is a great town to live in, too. Plenty to do, super cheap, and close to Chicago and Cincinnati.

At the end of their life, they were constantly breaking down. It was not a quiet, quick death. I'm glad they're gone. E170s are a lot more enjoyable to dispatch.

I hear you from a maintenance perspective. Sounds like Republic is a pretty good place to be.

You are correct, SkyWest does get flight benefits on all four of those airlines. They also fly the CRJ200, 700, 900, and E175 and run by far the largest regional operation.

DL and UA are on record of wanting fleets of 100-125ish 50 seat jets when it's all said and done. Not sure what AA is looking at for 50 seat fleet size.

That is a good deal for C5 to get that many 50 seaters. Mind you there all coming from Express Jet, so they tentatively won't be that loop sided on 50 seaters vs. Larger RJs.

Good luck on the contract! Hope you guys find a way to get some good things.

Since I never worked at a regional, I wouldn't know where to begin, but I think this chart may help. :D
