Delta meltdown part...4?

So would one call this a little bit of KDA this week?!?! [emoji15][emoji23]
AA's solution is to just cancel everything. For days. At least Delta makes an attempt to fly. It's sad when AA cancels all my flights but I can take Delta.

Plus, I wouldn't say anything until summer time and DFW/ORD get hit then a few hours later CLT, DCA, PHL, and JFK get hit all within an hour or two. Our entire operation will just dissolve.

Just a little friendly ribbing.

Maybe the mass cancellations are better for one day then to have lingering effects for 4 days. I don't know.

My GF is still in ORF. Had to buy her a ticket out on Southwest tomorrow...Just shy of a whole paycheck : / Out of curiousity we were thinking of moving back to the tidewater/ obx and commuting to DTW when I upgrade. Anybody have an idea on how many commuting pilots not on Whiskey are there?

Do you mean just ORF-DTW? Or commuting pilots in general? If ORF-DTW, there are a handful of Delta guys and a few more regional guys. I do the NYC commute from here and there are a pretty good amount of commuters on it.

When it comes to recovery, cancelling in advance and rescheduling on your own terms with planes and crews you know are available and legal is far easier/less headaches than running a full schedule for an upcoming storm. This isn't just a Delta problem, but pretty much any airline that prizes completion factor above all. The storms can be blamed for the day's mess. And the next day. But lingering effects into day 4 can't be blamed on just weather.

Well said.

AA cancels in advance with good intentions. But as soon as the wx hits:

It works surprisingly well. Continental would do this in Newark with some regularity. Telling everyone to go home and try again tomorrow beats the hell out of watching people sleep in the airport when everyone times out around 0200.

If only there was some sort of organization in place for the FAs that would not only mandate pay for "helping out",but also mandate that pay at a premium rate

Nah, basically the "Peach Corps" is cross divisional. If the internet is saying they're asking flight crews to volunteer, they're talking out of their ass.

Heads better roll after this one. This is completely unacceptable.

One of our former base Chief Pilots at Colgan, not at Delta was beating his chest a few weeks ago how 'amazing' Delta was as they went so many days without a cancellation. I would say that is a moot point now. He's also been awfully quiet since Wednesday.
