If you are young enough, why not? You get paid super well, your shift is short, and you have job security. Why anyone would pass up this opportunity is beyond me.

Wow, this doesn't even require a license! (Sorry, couldn't resist.) 
While I am very happy where I am now and my career has progressed, I might have been quite interested in this, if it had been posted early in my dispatch career. (I actually did consider cross-training into ATC back when I was still in the military.) I am sure the percentage of people that ultimately get selected and end up working as controllers is not super high, but if it sounds like something you want to do, go for it!

Just a warning here...wash out rate for center is around 60-66% so more likely than not you will be back in your old job than be a controller (if they take you back that is)
And thats just the academy. They still wash a good percentage at the facility.
I know from experience unfortunately.
If you were at a regional, I would consider it. If you were at a legacy or even second tier places like Spirit, Allegiant, Frontier, etc. I would wade with caution.

Also, the time it takes from applying to ending up at your facility is excruciatingly long. Some people who applied to the opening last year February are just now starting training at their respective facilities.

See, what you do is you get your dispatch license, get a year of two of experience, go into an ATC career, retire, and go to work for a major airline at their ATC desk.
They are there for a reason, ATC really is a young man's game. I work with plenty of individuals in their 50's that are a perfect example of that.

The age restriction was created for a very specific reason. Mandatory retirement is age 56. To qualify for a federal pension one must put in 25 years of service with the Government. 56 - 25 = 31
Where are you seeing this? I was one of the many CTI grads that got screwed over with the FAA hiring overhaul.
Yeah, when it gets privatized and there is no federal pension to worry about.

Honestly, if you're sitting at a regional looking for a mainline and would be happy as a controller, why wouldn't you jump all over this?

Sounds like you wouldn't be happy as a controller. Neither does working at PSA, better slide over to Envoy.
