Hey guys ! kinda been only checking in every now and then for past few years (was more active in 2005-2008 area)...at that time was seriously considering a career change from the fire service to aviation. Long story short decided to stay and finish up my 20 years and then maybe pursue flying after (acting on the advice of many here and in real life). Well, fast forward now to current time...I have 7 years left and work a few part time jobs to pay for ratings out of pocket. Have my private since 2004, and right now am in the final stages of instrument training at a local flight school. Have been prepping for the instrument ride and hope to have it knocked out in next month or so. After that right into commercial and so on. Goal right now is to maybe have CFI by next summer and then have about 5 to 6 years to instruct before my fire dept retirement date...which is June of 2023, which puts me at 43 years old then. Hopefully at that point ill have the hours to start dropping apps, and I'll be in a good position since I wont have any loans to repay (and of course if things still look good in the industry as far as hiring and jobs available). I'll have the FD pension and paramedic license to fall back on if this all comes crashing down ! Being single with no kids also makes this easier lol....I think its a decent and safe plan for now
Anyways, hope to reconnect with some of you guys....Ive made some really good friends here, some of which have become real life through the meet and greets I was at in LA in 2006 and 2007...good times !
