JC Surfers?

Unlike @dasleben who is closed minded and hates SUP's, I am open minded and every once in a while put down my paddle and ride a regular board. Meh.

I don't hate SUPs. I just have no idea why they float around in the lineups. If I had one, I'd buzz off and find my own waves. :)

And really, for every 1 guy on a SUP who's really good, there are 10 others who wave hog, drop in, and send their 150L boards sailing through the lineup attached to a 10' leash with no thought to the safety of others. As open minded as I try to be (we've discussed this), SUPs get a bad reputation among surfers for a reason.

My sup is smaller than your surfboard.

Tremendous!
That little video always makes me happy. Researchers and scientists for decades have studied why dolphins all over the globe, ride the wakes of ships and boats and why they surf waves. They will surf individually or together in pods as large as 150 or in groups of 8 or 10. They will sit patiently waiting for the waves and then surf them. They will often spend hours doing this. After all this time and all the research, scientists have all come to one conclusion as to why dolphins surf.

They do it for fun.

This is my song for today............I listened to it on the way home from the beach.....it was fitting and poignant for me

I was able to go body surfing with the body board that my buddy Len had brought me from down under. It's only the second time in a month that I have gone. We went together while he was still here. Toady was glorious. I and 4 friends went to Bolsa Chica. I am hoping to start going once a week when I am having a good day. At least that is my goal now. As we sat in our chairs in the sand and ate our packed lunches and I watched the sun glinting off the waves like a million diamonds, the brown pelicans skimming the waters, and heard the crescendoing swoosh of the waves when they break and crash down and inhaled that marvelous aroma of salt, seaweed, of living creatures, and of distant shores, I realized that it's okay if this is all I can do right now. I wouldn't have been able to, not that long ago. But now, on a good day, I can. Besides riding some waves, I enjoyed just being cradled and gently rocked in the swells, relaxing, and feeling like I again was home in the arms of the ocean that I have missed so much and it felt wonderful.

I know it isn't much and I don't know when or if I will ever be able to surf again, but I at least have this pleasure now. I learned I shouldn't avoid the waves just because I am not surfing right now. I can still be in the sea. I can swim along the shore and be a part of her again. I can still be rejuvenated and refreshed. I can still find solace there.

Let your soul, be your pilot
Let your soul, guide you
He'll guide you well

When you're down and they're counting
When your secrets, all found out
When your troubles, take to mounting
When the map you have, leads you to doubt
When there's no Information and the compass turns
To nowhere that you know well

Let your soul, be your pilot
Let your soul, guide you
He'll guide you well

When the doctor failed to heal you
When no medicine chest, can make you well
When no counsel, leads to comfort
When there are no more lies, they can tell
No more useless information and the compass spins
The compass spins between Heaven and Hell

Let your soul, be your pilot
Let your soul, guide you
He'll guide you well

An' your eyes turn towards the window pane
Lights upon the hill
The distance seems so strange to you now
The dark room seems so still

Let your pain, be my sorrow
Let your tears, be my tears too
Let your courage, be my model
That the north you'll find, will be true
When there's no information
And the compass turns to nowhere
To nowhere, that you know well

Let your soul, be your pilot

Let your soul, guide you

Let your soul, guide you

When the doctor failed to heal you
Only so many lies they can tell
No more useless information
Just your soul to guide you
Let your soul guide you

Let your pain, be my sorrow
Let your tears, be my tears too
Let your courage, be my model
That the north you'll find
That the north you'll find, will be true
Let your soul be your pilot
Let your soul guide you, upon your way

Long time no see, ladies and gents!

I just had to say that I've joined the dark side and picked up a SUP... a 9'6 ridden as a quad. Guys, I hate to eat crow here, but I take back all the crap I've talked in the past. ;) Of course, there are plenty of wave hogs on SUPs, but man, I have no idea why you'd even want to go hang out in a lineup with one. I paddled a mile down the beach this morning, stopping to pick off a wave here or there where nobody else was. Just me, the dolphins, the sea lions, and pelicans. To me, it's much less about getting a wave count than it is about just being out in nature (and getting waves here or there as they present themselves). Very different mentality.

Highly recommended, even if @etflies disapproves. :D Just very freeing not to have to jockey for position in a lineup. It's just so much more of an individual pursuit.

Meanwhile I've started riding SUP's that are no fun to paddle around because they're smaller than most people's surfboards.

FIFY :p
