Uphill battle to Majors? Help!

Hi,

I'm applying to the regionals now in hopes of flying for Majors one day.

I'm trying to figure out how much of an uphill battle I may have to Majors with these three dents in my background if my journey here on out is trouble free.

1. Left my first and only 121 regional earlier this year in middle of training due to Personal/family reasons. Never failed any part of the training during the 3 weeks of the training but it's obviously incomplete or failure to finish training.

2. As a teenager(minor), I was taken into local Police Department by a policeman for finding marijuana near where I was standing. This was over 20 years ago.

3. Four speeding tickets, all more than 12 years ago.

No other dings in my record or background I can think of.

I understanding many has to pay their dues at regionals and I'm willing to pay mine if my chances are decent and not an uphill battle. I am very interested in hearing from you folks who have been around the block couple times share your opinions as to where I stand with my "dings".

Ex: do you know of many who made it to majors with arrest as a minor, 1 incomplete 121 training, and/or this many tickets???

Policeman took you to the station? Were you charged with anything? Found guilty? Any record of it?

If not, bury it and then bury the shovel.

One of the question in regional application asked, have you EVER been arrested weather sealed, expunged. The app asks you to list even if none convicted or charged, etc.
Another application asked that they are going to run background check and wanted to know if there is ANYTHING I want to share now. It's a very general question and it doesn't specify the word charged or convicted.

I answered yes to these. Am I being too honest??? I should answer yes to these questions right? I'm thinking these type of question will continue to come up as I progress in to this career.


Anyways to answer your question, no I was not charged or convicted. The cop took my finger print and sent me home on my own. So technically I'm guessing I was arrested?

I went back to this Police Department recently and Records Clerks says she can not find anything on my record. I'm guessing 20+ year is too old... I don't know.

If you were taken into the department and finger printed, isn't it arrest? I'm not positive as this was well over 20 years ago but I think they also took my picture.
 
If the records are expunged you can honestly answer "no, you've never been arrested."

Edit to add: also it doesn't sound like you were arrested.

This is correct.

Of the three, I'd say that quitting during training will be the biggest threat... But by the time you get there it will be so far in the rear view mirror that I really don't think it would be an issue for you.
 
And what does being arrested have to do with anything? If your not convicted then you were innocent from the get go.

Arrested does NOT mean guilty by any stretch of the imagination.
 
20 years ago background companies had no easy way of logging any sort of data. I agree with Zap, it never happened.

Yes, but most of the applications specifically ask about being arrested OR convicted.

What if not arrested but sited (ticket) and forced to court (federal)? I know that didn't go away, I was a minor, and it came back when I had a security clearance done with CIA. They laughed.
 
It's my understanding that if it happened as a minor you're not legally obligated to answer anyways.
If you have a question of your background just run a check on yourself.
But as others have stated nothing you have brought up is a problem.
 
I have a friend who was caught with some pot when he was younger. Today he flies for a major airline. Nothing you said is a big deal as you weren't convicted of anything.

No worries. Be ready to talk about it, mostly for reassurance that the company you're interviewing with isn't another bad fit.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you were convicted of a drug offense.

That's it? Hot damn, I'd average two a year in college. Brown guy, small town, red car. Just bein' honest.

Not good advice.

The question is "have you ever?"

You aren't legally bound to answer anything in an interview, but if you want the job I heavily suggest answering the question as presented.

A little birdy says that it's really more about your forthrightness in answering — are you being honest or are you telling the interviewer what you think he wants to hear by saying "(technically) no"
