ALPA @ AA?

Whatever happens, I think now is a great time to take a long hard look in the mirror and evaluate where we stand as an association as a whole.

Is continuing with APA the right thing to do? Who knows...

Is returning to ALPA the right thing to do? Who knows...

Is the discussion necessary and healthy for our future? Absolutely!

Problem is if you take the APA name tag of the same officers and put an ALPA one on there, the results will be similar. Im all for it, I think APA stinks and is the weirdest most fractured union ive ever seen.

The loud PHL guy whose mantra is "We're not happy til every one is unhappy, and mad" needs to go. I don't know enough about the CLT guys yet, but I wouldn't shed a tear for them either.

CLT and PHL reps (at least PD, for sure) definitely need to go. The "leadership" at the top needs to go.

Regardless of the name on the door, there needs to be a major change at APA. The system is broken.

I'm no fan of ALPA by any means! However, from what I've seen at APA, ALPA might be a better alternative. APA has and will continue to cater to the senior nAAtives and screw everyone else in the process. That's just how they're built.

If we were to join ALPA, for at least a few years, they'd bend over backwards to ensure our dues money keeps coming in. I'd be willing to bet that the next ALPA President would be an AA guy.

Have all of the lawsuits that the APA is party to been resolved?

It actually would probably reduce ALPA dues overall across the association.

That is a stretch to say. The BOD voting members would not correlate AA coming in and a Presidency. It would need to be based on the merit of the ALPA work and experiences of the individual.

Why is that?

My first exposure to the ALPA machine was the Worthless Walrus. Second, internal union politics and good ole boy clubs at XJTALPA left a very sour taste in my mouth. (Disclaimer: The same thing has happened at APA and thus they'll be getting no more than my 1% dues for the rest of my career.)

I agree with you on dues. Our outgoing VP talked with some high ups at ALPA and was told EVERYTHING was negotiable. I believe that adding 15,000 pilots would be good for the association as a whole, dues-wise.

As far as your second statement there, when Delta was threatening to leave ALPA and go independent, magically, Lispin' Lee finds himself in the President's seat. Don't tell me that wasn't planned.

How much does APA have in the bank?

No idea, but I'm sure it's more than USAPA had.

No disagreements there!

I was at that BOD. The reason Lee won wasn't because Delta was threatening to leave. He despises the DPA as a matter of fact. It had more to do with the fact that United and Continental didn't have their crap together.

In terms of assistance programs and safety, ALPA can't be matched for pilots. But absolutely hate the whole "every pilot group for itself" philosophy of bargaining.

I'm new at a teamsters shop and one thing I've enjoyed is that our local is vocal about supporting other airlines in our industry segment. That's what a trade union should be.

.... you have a vocal local?
