Hotel rec near Newark/NYC?

Trying to take the family to NYC next week. Looks like my airline doesn't have any specific discounts at EWR or JFK. Just wanted to see if anyone here can recommend a place with a crew rate that's not ghetto. Obviously doesn't have to be the Ritz either since we'll be out and about during the day.

Are we talking in the city or out near EWR with transportation to the city?

I would suggest Secacus NJ, there is an embassy suites, Hyatt place, holiday inn and others right on the Harmon meadows bus line.
Those hotels are about a 15 minute bus ride to the port authority station in NYC, and about 15-20 minutes from EWR by cab.
It's also an area that I've never felt worried about walking to/from dinner, etc at night.

The plan at this point is to use public transit into the city for the days we'll be there. Ideally, we'll non-rev out to EWR, and stay near there in Jersey (we have a few friends in the area). Seems like there are a lot of transportation options for when we want to go into Manhattan.

I'm not sure, but there are four or five hotels within about a block of each other, so at least one of them probably will

Also, I just did a quick orbitz search for one room, next Friday night just for grins and it looks like $125-139 a night for the area I was thinking, just in case you cant get a crew rate at any of them.

Stay downtown. I know it'll be spendy, but getting around NYC kind of blows.

If you were going into LGA, I'd recommend The Verve in LIC. Nice, clean hotel right beside trains, 1 stop from manhattan, and easy to get to LGA when you need to leave. I've stayed there for $129/night

Might do that for the 2-3 days we spend seeing the actual city. I think the first night we'll just stay near the airport and then rent a car and drive up the Hudson for a couple of nights.

Most guys that fly into TEB stay in Secaucus. The area is decent with restaurants and it's not too difficult to get into the city from there.

If all else fails, the Doubletree by EWR used to be crew friendly. I heard that changed, but it might be worth looking into.
