Delta Disqualifiers

I think that some of you guys need to expand your scope on the vastness of this industry. Delta would be a great place to work. It may even be the top job out there right now, but there is a lot of opportunity currently out there. If you're a regional pilot (especially an FO), you have that 121 box checked and it will always be in your back pocket. Maybe you could go do some other type of flying for a while and diversify a little. There's a lot of 135, corporate, air ambulance, and expat work out there these days. If you don't want to go that route, there's always Allegiant, Spirit, Virgin America, Frontier, and etc...

Delta appears to be the pretty girl at the party and some of you appear to be that guy who complains about good guys finishing last. While the pretty girl is getting all of the attention, there's always some lonely girl there just itching for you to come over and talk to her. ;)

Well said!!

It only assures someone will pull your app and score it.
United has something similar.

"Good news, you scored well, now can you just get some checkairmen experience or training dept to bring your score up?"

Grumble grumble.

Gotta hit a few job fairs, hoping for some training dept experience soon.

Volunteer to do recruiting at a job fair. That will kill two birds with one stone. You are showing that you do stuff outside of your pilot duties and you get to hang with the rest of the recruiters. Recruiters from all the different companies see each other all the time on the job fair circuit and are tighter than the "JC inner circle". :)

That's funny...

As if getting Check Airmen time is something you can just purchase at the gas station on the way to work.

These recruiters understand that there has been nothing but stagnation at a lot of shops right? They understand that that means there wasn't a lot of check airmen or training or standards hiring going on at certain airlines, which makes it difficult to get said check airmen time.

They can't be that clueless.

So in other words "Be single, have no family, no children, no life. Completely devote yourself to your job, and be a "company guy! *thumbs up, half hearted management jerk smirk*"

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Captain I fly with occasionally was told by Delta at a job fair not to long ago that her career is stagnant and that's why they aren't interested in her. Well no kidding...of course it's stagnant.

I guess we are just supposed to make lateral moves every few years in order to keep attending training events.

I can say with 100% certainty that I am the person I am today because of the mistakes I've made. I have learned many valuable lessons from screwing things up and it's made me a much stronger individual now than I would have been without them.

No hat in this fight, I just wanted to say this is by far the best thing I have read in some time. I have hung my head low because of mistakes..this makes me feel a lot better.

Taking a few days of your time to talk to people who are trying to get where you are is a bad thing? Most companies also PAY their volunteers to be there. So you are getting PAID to be at a job fair that most people are paying to attend.

....and you are not devoting your time. You're investing your time.

If you're a there volunteer, then why would they have to pay you out to get you there?

I could understand paying out a here volunteer to there for the purposes of their job, but then they'd have to be paid to be payed out to their there to be a there volunteer.

Or aren't you saying what you're saying?

That is a lack of proofreading on my part. It should be "their". :)

Yep.

I got the fix-it email 2 years ago; fixed it, still waiting. But I know I'm getting scored.

I got a fix it email. The form on airline apps said to show ten years of work history, so I filled out the last ten years. Delta emailed me asking me to show full work history from high school through current, I fixed it, never heard another word. Guess I took too long finishing college.

I work so I can invest my time in other activities. Like my kids. I already spend enough time away from home.
