I think I'm finally in a less selfish time in my life where I'd actually like to do some volunteering aviation-wise. I'm not home all that often but I'd appreciate any ideas. I live in so cal. Thanks!

I'm in SoCal and need my grass mowed? Airplanes go by once in awhile.

Geez, good question. I don't mind a non flying position. I was thinking along the lines of helping out at the civil air patrol (looks like I'd still have to pay dues though?) or maybe at an airshow whenever they come around. I'm really not too sure whats out there.

Yep two museums. I know they take volunteers, but I'm not too sure I'd be doing anything other than cleaning.

I volunteer at CAP when I can. When I was in Kentucky I flew Drug Interdiction flights supporting Kentucky State Police, KYNG and DEA. Haven't had time to really get back into it on a weekly basis yet.

Here is where I have volunteered as far as aviation is concerned:

1. Civil Air Patrol. If you have a good squadron near you then this can be great.

2. Sun n Fun. I did not volunteer this year at Sun n Fun because I had a conflict. But I usually volunteer for the week of Sun n Fun. Some folks have been doing this for decades. It's always a great time.

I would recommend both of these organizations.

Become a Boy Scout a Merit Badge counselor for Aviation and anything else you might be interested in. I've put aviation into ogre badges as well.

Young Eagles too. I'm trying to get more info on that too.

I volunteered at Oshkosh for the two years I was able to go. I enjoyed it. 2010 & 2011.

Yeppp. That's what I'm thinking. I used to instruct there, so still know plenty of people.

A few years back I volunteered at a local EAA young eagles event. Check their website to see if they have one near you.

Give free instruction. There are some students that need that to get through whatever they are working on.

Before I get flames for under cutting the CFIs out there, I'm not saying to do this regularly, just a one time thing..... It helped me finish up my private after two years of work.
