United reaching out to ALPA FFD Carriers

I just sat on the parking lot bus with a 777 captain that was bitching about the work.

Go mow lawns or communicate on how to make it better.
My old man was bemoaning something or other the other day (he doesn't like hearing his Vice Admirals gripe), and then he looked at me and went "oh, right."

I have things to bemoan (I think I even might be able to fix some of them), but this does beat driving around in a 206 by a sizable margin, which was the other option.

Also, the conclusion I have arrived at recently is that pilots need more hobbies.

Right, because they would totally turn down a Delta job if it were ever offered to them. We have several of those types too.

True but that's important to be aware of from a hiring perspective. That's sure not the person I would want to hire nor sit next to for 10 hours.

So, Republic and Skywest pilots need not apply? Wonder who's supposed to get all the future United flying.

Correct. ALPA member pilots only, thankfully.

One thing they can't ride our coat tails on.

However, when the latest FFD committee met in Herndon it included Republic and SkyWest pilot leadership. However, they were promptly ushered out when Moak didn't like the fact non-ALPA pilots were participating.

Or you could be a roofer in GA in the 90+ degree heat. Talk about hard work. I felt bad for the guy as I drank my icy beer on the couch the other day. Life is full of choices.....I'm glad I didn't make that one!

Pssssshhhh... try begin a roofer here in Phoenix, on a 112 degree day between 12-2pm. While putting down hot tar, which is probably infinitely hotter that the ambient temperature. Oh and being an illegal Mexican and probably only making $7 an hour.

Skyw pilots crashed an ALPA meeting?
Edit: I mean why?

Lol driving the 206 around was a blast!!! To bad there are not more operations like that.

I can understand ALPA excluding non-ALPA pilots from their events. But for United to be endorsing this leaves me puzzled. I think of all the extra effort I've done to help United customers, and see this as a kick in the face. Hardly surprising I guess, coming from United. But this just pushes me that much more towards the "I don't give a crap" category.

This isn't United doing this I don't believe, but ALPA

From what I gather it was the United ALPA MEC steering committee that brought the idea to the MEC. The MEC thought it was a good plan and then used their channels to get the United management on board with this plan.

These are not on site interviews but rather a face-to-face with people who are intimately involved with the hiring process. If United is a place you want to work I would highly suggest you camp out on July 7 and submit your application. This could be the difference of a year or more in a pile of 6k+ qualified applications.

Ask guys like @Trip7 how important it is to meet the right people and portray your desire to work for such a carrier.

Just my $0.02

This is how trade unionism is supposed to work. I'd be happy to hear that a major ALPA carrier convinced their management team to only hire ALPA pilots. Start in the little league and, if you are on the right farm team, end up at the Big Show. Not going to happen, but it would be nice.

No, they didn't crash...they were invited by the other FFD MECs to take part. However, ALPA PrezDog wasn't impressed with non-ALPA groups taking part.

Probably because he was still ticked off about all the dues money spent on free lunches for those guys a few years ago.

Or, more likely, because they aren't a vote he can buy, he didn't want to waste any time with them.
