Southwest lands at wrong airport?

Actually, Robertson was not fired, he was suspended. That brought a ton of negative feedback to A&E. He was brought back a week later. It was all b.s. to cover their own butts (they could care less what he said it was all false bravado) and not lose/jeopardize the biggest cash cow that they have.

Now you want to judge this crew on the "what ifs" and not on what actually occurred? Do you have the actual truth/ answers of how and why this happened? Have you listen to the CVR? If so, please feel free to share the facts and the data.

CEOs and other management make decisions all the time which negatively affect the public image of the carriers and do not properly address customer service, on time issues and a host of other issues. I don't see any of them being canned. Half the crap they pull on their employees, the public is not even aware of and management sure as hell doesn't care how their own employees perceive them.
You're changing the topic and not answering my question. Almost everyone here said A&E had the right to protect their image. Firing/suspending/banning from the show/whatever was perfectly okay because A&E was simply doing what they felt was best for their company. Why can't SW fire the crew simply for the negative press this incident has caused?

I corrected your bad analogy and I have not changed the subject. How exactly has SWA's "image" been damage thus far? Are pax suddenly flocking in droves to other carriers? Has their stock taken a dramatic hit? Both pilots have been suspended pending the investigation. Shouldn't we wait until said investigation has concluded first, or should we just fire them now?

They could, and they very well might. The thing is there is a process in which this needs to be investigated. With most ALPA contracts it's known as Section 19. Or they could do just as you say and use the negative image as there way to separate. It's a sloppy slope if they go down that road just as it was for A&E. Not saying it's right or wrong but I think we in the aviation community should see what potentially led up to this mistake. I for one would love to read the finding. Same goes with the Atlas plane a few weeks ago. I know when I was still involved with CJC there were a ton of mitigating factors that people wouldn't think of on their best day!

Are you nuts? The Kings are kicking it. If the Lakers could have Cousins (the guys name, not children of the parents of the Lakers) they would be way better. It's so hard to be a Lakers fan this year.
I agree. I live in sac so I think the kings are good for my community. But I am a lakers fan. Painful to watch thi year!

After reading more articles about this, Ive come to the conclusion this proves if you put a major network mic in front of anyone's face, they'll tend to slightly exaggerate the truth.

So a crew can land at the wrong airport and come a few hundred feet from possible injury/death of passengers, and most on here say the crew should not be fired.

The union people here will talk about a "just safety culture," and how firing the crew won't fix anything. Let's ignore the "safety" side of this for a minute. What about from a PR perspective? Would it be okay for SW to fire the crew simply for the negative press this is bringing the company?

Before you answer, keep in mind your response to A&Es firing of Phil Robertson. Their employee did/said something that brought a ton of negative attention to the network, so they fired the guy. Almost everyone here said A&E had the right to fire an employee for possibly damaging the company's image.

Why is this different?

Because it is.

(really?)

Meh. Looks like every time I repo the Challenger out of IAD with 4500 lbs of go juice. Level at 3000' by the time the flaps retract fully.

The only thing the media likes better than making someone a hero is contributing to, then publicizing their downfall. Places like CNN and most like networks salivate over publishing dirt, controversy, scandal and whatever garbage they can dig up. You can be a hero one day and a slight mistake in your past will be front page news before you wake up the next morning. The drama being generated in the media over this incident is meant to draw ratings and sell newspapers. CNN doesn't give a rats ass as to why this happened, I mean the real reason WHY? They just want to talk to the lady with bugged out eyes that explains how they landed sideways with the smell of burning rubber and came a few feet from going over a cliff. Is this a serious issue? Sure it is, but it's not front page news serious. The FAA and Southwest will figure out what happened and take steps to avoid it from happening again. All the what if scenarios are just silly because, well.... because they just are. How many of us have ever been in a situation that was a close call from a safety standpoint, but somehow we avoided an incident or accident? I'm raising my hand by the way. How many of us good drivers have ever been driving a car and drifted into another lane or onto the shoulder due to distraction? Should we be put in jail because we could have hit a school bus and killed 40 children? These issues are global, not microscopic. People are people and as such, will do people things. We need to figure out why people do what they do to effectively fix things. You can lock people up in prison until the cows come home but until we figure out why people commit crime, we're doomed to just keep locking more and more people up. We have to address the WHY....

Think about what a wonderful learning opportunity it would be to sit down with these two pilots and have them explain to you why something that could never happen to them, did.

Let the facts emerge and learn from this. Listening is always better than talking.

Getting the numbers (probably from a Boeing engineering team) in that record short time must have been an interesting and challenging problem. Whoever the pilots were, they definitely milked the light weight/max thrust in that rocketship climb. Must have been fun. :)

Rumor has it that Southwest is going to start service there. Hey, I just heard it from a guy that knows a guy.....whose cousin runs the place.
