Pilot shortage (desperate?)

... I am on year 5.

I feel I am on one cliff looking at the other, in-between there is a river flowing through the middle with man eating sharks electric eels and piranhas between me and flying airplanes. The only way to the other side is a long winding road that goes back the direction I came, over 3 states around a mountain range, some flaming hoops to get to the other side.

There is a pilot shortage, hey I'm a pilot ooh ooh pick me :D

You could always fly over the river :)

Could get a real job and save yourself the heartbreak, time, and wasted money.

Just an idea.

I have several applications out. Any ideas? The one I liked was being a automotive technician for a German car company that is recruiting veterans with technical backgrounds, waiting to hear back from them. :)

If you have a commercial there are flying gigs to be had, just not in the 121 world. Not sure I understand you're frustration.

Welp, set down in thet chair right there, grab a beverage and lemme tell ya my tale. Oh you didn't run away screaming? Cool.

The long story short is, I joined the AF R to be a FE on C-5s, well that process is pending ....now for six months, and it is probably going to be another six months...So civilian employment, I've been working as a parachute rigger not making a whole lot of cash, thought it would be a temp gig until I went off to FE school. Yeah, so now I am looking for more lucrative employment in almost anything I am qualified to do. Welcome to the job market. :)

Total time and location?

Jump time? Willing to move? I'm also in sac with lower time then you. I have had a few opportunities gain some time but none worked out for various reasons. There are a ton of drop zones in northern Cali that are always hiring. There's an aerial photo company on the back side of sac executive airport. Off of 24th street. Can't remember the name but the lady told me that my 300 tt was too low. Perhaps you qualify??

The willing to move part is difficult, the other half is on active duty and we just signed a 10 month lease...but thank you for that nugget of information. I may have to investigate :) Jump piloting, in this area requires 1000TT or better there in lies the mystery. I have plans of checking out CAP at Sac Exec and winning the lottery so I can start my own regional airline.
Well, those seem like respectable times. Whats the problem?

That Sir is a good question. Part of it is currency the other part is, start banging on hanger doors with resume in hand ?

The parachute center in Lodi is 1000tt but the one in Lincoln (skydive sac) told me 500tt for insurance. Same with skydance skydiving in Davis....4-500tt.

And definitely check out radman at exec. They were really nice when I stopped by. I was just a little short on hours.

The only thing stopping me is the terrible starting pay. I can't afford to make the leap and live on poverty wages. (I know, I know...pay your dues, yadda yadda yadda)

Living on poverty wages shouldn't be a 'paying your dues' requirement. I've been seriously considering going 121 just to get some multi jet time, but I still can't bring myself to do it. Pay me a fair, LIVABLE salary and I'll definitely do it. I spent the past couple of nights on airline pilot central messing with the pay scale calculator for various regionals, and kept just wanting to smash my head into the keyboard.

306 hrs and going from a 150hp piston(s) to a jet....yikes.

Happened all the time a few years ago. A good buddy of mine got hired with 260 TT, 25 multi. I missed that initial wave by just under a year, as they started furloughing when I finally got my commercial/CFI.
