Ever flown an airplane you just don't like?

Cherokee 140. Just so little power..

Duchess, but not really the airplane, just the ones that I flew were in such horrible condition and kept breaking.

We dabbled with a Partenavia once, it was awful, but I've never flown another one to find out if it was just that one or all of them. Light in roll, ridiculously heavy in pitch, small and uncomfortable inside, crap useful load, wouldn't climb on one engine at sea level, slow for all the fuel it burned.

I was thinking about taking a part-time flying a Partenavia. Are they really awful? I've heard very mixed reactions to them. Any details (bad or good) would be appreciated. Any graveyard gotchas?

AZTEC. AZTEC. AZTEC. Now let's start in on the APACHE.

I never liked flying the AC560. They put better engines on it, but they also increased the weight so it was still underpowered as hell. I didn't get enough time in the plane to really feel comfortable with it, but I seriously doubt I'd have ever come to like it.

I loved the baby Dash though. I could do everything with that airplane. Landing and taking off out of Kapalua was amazing.

Apparently the ATR has a negative single engine climb performance during the required OEO departure off of 2. Doh!

I still cant seem to land the CASA either. But I just learned that a couple good turns of nose up trim in the flare works wonders.

Just be careful about using too much trim in the flare in case you end up doing a balked landing or something. That little bit of nose up at slow speed and idle power will turn into a whole lot of nose up at go around power.

The EMB-120. It has a prop system that wants to murder you and if you're taller than about 5'5" you're gonna have a bad time.

It can be a lot of fun but it can be a huge pain in the ass too. I do like that it is built like a tank. Barring a catastrophic event it'll bring you back safe.

That was the worst sim ride ever! Tiny little rudder and with a climb rate of only 50 fpm. It was a long time holding full rudder until acceleration altitude!

Metro II. They are the worst airplane. Ever. After sitting in one for 8 hours your ear drums are ringing, even with an ANR. It needs to be nearly at IFR reserves to carry any payload.

Cherokee 140. A sad, sad excuse for an airplane. Underpowered, crappy wing, stupid trim "wheel", and hot in the summer. What more could one ask to hate?

I didn't fly the C model - the B with the big tip-tanks...nah, not for me.
I flew the B, and really liked it. Anything with turbocharging in the ice was much 'ppreciated. I always wanted to give C model a whirl, but no chance yet. I also wondered how the twin Cessna series would have performed with something other than those split flaps.

I'm also surprised at the amount of loathing at some of the light singles/trainers. They're not supposed to be luxury sedans or sportscars. Plus, some have withstood five decades and thousands of hours of students' abuse, returning for more like a faithful family dog. Finally, they make good first sole-ownership airplanes. Ubiquitous=cheap and insurable (usually). I like easiness on the wallet. :)

The navajo > the 402. Every day. The navajo flies better with both running and OEI, carries a bigger load and is simply "nicer" in terms of cockpit layout and all the amenities.

Thats a very good point!

C172 RG GUTLESS...I mean Cutlass. Hated flying it

^This

The straight 172s aren't bad and do their job well, but when the engineers put the RG system and constant speed prop on they didn't change anything else so I is just heavy, and handles like complete garbage.

As far as gliders - the Schweizer 2-32. Obnoxiously roomy but did not really feel like flying a glider to me because it was so heavy and fast. Beautiful airplane to spin though.

Hands down the Q400. Biggest POS with wings I've ever gotten my hands on. Lots of neat toys but seemingly the low budget Chinese knock off versions and it was always, always, always (did I say always?) breaking. Not to mention quite possible the ugliest thing in the skies next to a shorts. The CRJ-200 is a close second, but at least it's been more reliable. Significantly more.

I don't generally like anything with a high wing, maybe another reason I hated the Q. Spent most of my early flying hours with Piper products and still prefer them. I must admit though that Cessna turbo 206 in all leather with all the toys was pretty pimp @drunkenbeagle

Ya the navajo is 2x the plane the 402 is. In every way, from cockpit layout to ice carrying to useful load and the engines on the wings.

As for the airplanes I've flown that I just hated, well that would be every single beechcraft product I've ever personally flow. Every one is just pure awfulness in mechanical form.

DHC-2 aka frigin truck with the most unergonomic cockpit design
172, not sure if anything more boooring ever left the ground

T-tail Arrow? Dunno, not a huge fan but didn't hate it either.
If you hated the Beaver, you were clearly not using it for it's intended purpose. There is no way to use a beaver correctly that doesn't put a smile on a pilots face.
