Copa Airlines

This thread prompted me to apply and I got offered a few interview dates at the end of the month, thinking it would be a good experience and see what happens!

Let me know what days youre here and if Im around Id be happy to meet up with you and show you around a bit. Good luck on everything as well.

From a friend who flies 737 there I was told 4000 mo.start.

Start and end. No pay raises per year as it is a fixed pay system. Day 1 person makes the same as 30 years of valiant service.

Training pay was reduced drastically about 6 months ago with housing allowance no longer being offered to new hire expats.

That would be great! I really see a lot of negative stuff online and like to hear a realistic perspective, good and bad. Told Ambar that I want the 16-18 June interview and am awaiting the travel plans. She said they cover flights, hotel and three meals a day while Im there, which is pretty nice.

Do you have any idea what the training pay is? I've seen mixed things, not sure which is right. Also, why does training take like six months?!

Oh and all the documentation I was emailed, nothing was said about a training bond or contract. Maybe that went away with the housing allowance...

Not sure about the training contract right now or what has changed. When I signed up it was for a year but by the time I got down with training I was almost 8 months in....

The initial training part for FOs takes so long because those 6 months entail arriving, meeting with lawyers, license processing and validation, documentation, written exams and then ground school plus IOE which is 100 hrs. Then you have to wait for the aviation authority to do your check ride and your IOE line check (its not internally done by Copa). So it is a lot to do and schedule. I have heard some guys recently are done in 4 months as they have streamlined some processes. Expect 6 and you wont be disappointed.

Training pay from what I heard is around 1000 a month for FOs. Ive messaged a friend going through training now for more solid numbers and Ill PM you with details when he gets back to me. The rumor mill said that a lot of guys were coming for the type and then bailing somewhere else. So on that front they just lowered the initial pay to discourage it.

Pm Sent. I was impressed and hope I get an offer. I'm not sure how the COMPASS test went but, I feel like I was at least average.

Welp, got the reject letter today :(

Best of luck to everyone else and I will be reapplying in a year. I'll be happy to answer any interview/app questions...

sorry to hear that but shake it off and keep your head held up high.
Hope it was a learning experience!
Better luck next time around.

Yeah sorry to hear that. You said the math section was tough right? They've changed the interview drastically since I did it. Anyway, I'm sure they will still need people in a years time.

Any idea why? If you are going to re apply it might be helpful to find out and generous to share if you find out.

Although from what I here the culture related to responding to questions related to hiring can be very if to non existent. So I guess you may not get a response.

Is Copa still hiring? What's comp mins? They still looking for expats? Tired of flying in the states, need to go overseas again.

AFIK they're looking for Captains now. They just took a bunch of expat FOs, some without turbine time and less than 1500TT. Not sure what is competitive for Captains but, they seem to be in great need for experienced captains with 5000TT/1000TPIC.

Does anyone know if they do a polygraph now for US citizens? Nothing to hide--just wondering since I've heard they do PRIA not polygraph on US citizens!

Yes, US citizens get a polygraph; it's no big deal. You get questions like: Have you smuggled drugs, laundered money, lied on your application? They definitely do not do PRIA but, will require an employment verification letter on company letterhead and two letters of recommendation from Chief Pilots/Supervisors.

About to finish my app for an FO position, just 1000TT short for Captain. Anything new I should look out for? Any good test prep out there which will help on the interview? Thanks
