Richard Johnson is flying I believe.

I was wondering as Richard Hensch is one of the few that gives MES in Central Florida, now I`m not sure if he uses the Twin Bee, "that thing above" or the Grumman.

He use to train our pilots on the Maule.
 
It`s fairly used around the world for survey, my guess was due to AVGAS not being easy to get in many places where a survey may be needed.

We have a Reims 406, company that sells those mainly outfits them for survey and surveillance.

I think I'd rather be in something slower to be honest... at least for survey. Garretts burn a lot of gas down low, and a metric crap ton if you're going slow to, relative to speed. They want to get up and move. Most computer systems for survey platforms can't keep up at 320kts.

Well many parts of the world have little to no AVGAS. In Indonesia 99% of the country has no AVGAS and huge survey going on, they use Porters and Caravans.

I quoted a French company once for the use of our 206, they send planes all over the world.

Honestly I don`t think they care much about burning a bit more, some of those govt contracts are $$$$$$, for our 206 they were gonna pay 600 USDs/hour dry plus 200USDs a day for the pilot, I guess they could have done it in a caravan for that money.

Most of the survey I have seen in Europe is done on twin turbines, especially the one at at sea.

yeah maybe to buzz over NYC it`s a waste.

Depends on your fleet logistics. If that's all ya have available for the mission and it's a quick out and back one liner or so the remaining larger projects flown in a slower platform would offset the cost. It really all depends. But yes 441 @300-350lbs a side is pretty pricey.

Taken about 3am. We ended up sitting here for 8 hours for this call, lady we came to pick up and medevac out ended up giving birth, very slowly.

I was talking to my boss a little while back and he was telling me the company we fly pictures for wants something that goes fast when it needs to and slow when it needs to. Meaning a nice variety of speed to choose from. In a perfect world, Caravans/PC-12's. But for now we'll stick to 172's and Aztecs, even though Aztec mx/parts are starting to be hard to come by from what I'm told.

The AC690 is actually a good survey platform with the high wing. Pretty cheap to. You can hang out at 100kts all day if have a pilot that is proficient enough to fly not too awful much above Vmc(86) and well below Vyse(121). Then 290kts in cruise.

I have seen some old Falcons equipped with slats and used for maritime survey in the South Pacific, that must be a good way to build jet time.
