PPL to Legacy in under 9 Years...

Yes.

With a bit better luck, I could have as well. I took my first flight 9 years ago last month. In the last year I had two Legacy interviews. Neither one panned out but my experience was competitive for both jobs.

It's my current goal. If I keep on the right track, with a little luck I'm hoping it'll be attainable. I got my Private on my 17th birthday and hired at a regional when I was 19. If I can get to a major by the time I'm 30 I'd be enthralled, but I'm hoping for around 25.

I am not looking to get to finish line ASAP. I am trying to squeeze every drop of enjoyment I can out of this job before I head to the airlines. I am a young guy, so I figure I got time.

But I am not gonna put those that do it in a short amount of time down. You guys are amazing DPApilot

My philosophy is since I am young and this really does not apply to people that have more age, once you reach the finish line, what do you have to look forward to besides working the job you will probably be at for the next 35 years? Just my .02.

As for me I am at work and love it everyday and I plan to head to the 135 world soon, and enjoy that for a few years, especially flying single pilot.

Careful dilly dallying... seniority is everything in this career. Those that you let pass you to your career airline will forever be in front of you and getting better schedules than you!

7 years 5 months here. Sorry ComplexHiAv8r no such training here try again. Fairly BS comment but whatever.
I don't see it as BS, I know a few that have done it and are ahead of others on this site. You do too. Might be luck of who they got on with, but a true comment. I might not like it, but we all know it happened. I'm not saying it couldn't be done, but I know guys that got to regionals via CFI that are still there (a few even still FO's) while others have done the other route and are sitting at legacy's.

And as stated seniority is everything...and luck!

Very true, but I look at it like this, I would rather look back and reflect on the greatest days of my younger life than to have seniorty. Being an old airline pilot and saying "man I got the best schedule in the world and I am senior, but man did life pass me by quick," is not what I want. I want to be that captain that might be a little older not have the best schedule, and laugh at my crazy days in my younger years.

But I also know that those that might have the better schedule will never be able to get the adventures and experiences I did in life, and I will trade to that any day.

But I will not dilly dally I promise... I will get on the seniority list after going 135

I've found those that are most miserable later in their careers are the ones that wait around like you're doing. You'll be old before you know it... and all the great jobs will be taken by those younger than you. Thanks to my rush, I was flying a 767 at 26 years old. Can't beat that!

True, but I am not waiting around. I am just enjoying my life as I am sure you are too since you only get one of those ;)

Probably depends on your frame of reference. I don't think I'd ever have been happy about my career if all I'd ever done was fly for an airline. *shrug* Different strokes for different folks. Certainly, getting to a Legacy seems currently to be the best way to earn good bread and have sane QOL But for me it would suck if I hadn't done the other stuff. To each their own.

Getting the hours to go to a legacy is typically a wide variety of flying. I sure as heck covered everything from flight instruction, to corporate, to aerobatics.

Totally jealous that's awesome! I got my ppl when I was 17 in 2000 so it was an unrealistic pipe dream if I were to make it in that amount.

I got a much later start than you did I'm thinking so I'm sure you'll be fine! Like PeanuckleCRJ said don't let opportunity pass you by but don't forget to be like purpel and enjoy the ride!
