daily pic

I ferried this Luscombe 8A (with a A65) from WI down to TN a few weeks ago. It was restored and owned by the late "Mr. Wag-Aero" (Dick Wagner) and was in pretty good shape. It had two 12 gallon wing tanks in it and only burned 4.5gph so it had some range. I was able to make the 500nm trip in two legs (long...uncomfortable legs) with over an hour reserve at each stop.

About 20 minutes into the first 3 hour leg...this started to suck.

Counting down the minutes to get out of this thing and storm randomly pops up and starts growing fast between the airport and I 20 minutes out - ForeFlight proving its worth today. The storm made the 3 hour leg into a 4 hour leg...in a Luscombe. Im still sore I think. Haha

That would be the Ralphs'. As in supermarkets. Beautiful outside, mission functional inside. You'll find it based at BUR but also flying out of LAX. That's the personal jet. Not the corporate one.

**Just saw your post about Yucaipa. Ralph's may have sold it, I guess**

Yucapia Companies owns or has owned and sold Ralph's and several other major grocery markets. According to some locals a couple flew in on the jet because they had never been here, then they bought a resort and left. Supposedly the jet has 3 separate bedrooms suites on it.

That's what I'd thought, but wasn't sure. LA used to be a small town, and my gf has all of these cray stories about Hollywood, and those her grandparents ran around with. Her grandfather was Guy Madison (Wild Bill Hickock), and I was like "yeah yeah yeah" at first. Then she started taking me inside of all of these stories. I had tuned her out, and then she would say, "Remember when I told you about....?" This airplane was one of those stories.

"Wow. That's a private 757 at Burbank. Wonder who owns that...."
"That looks like the Ralph's airplane." She says
"Um. That's a 757. That's like $130M sitting idle and burning more coin than most make in a year; just sitting there. One doesn't just OWN a 7-5-7." I say.
"Yeah... Ralph's. Like the grocery store. I think that's theirs. My grandmother is their neighbor, and they have pictures of this plane all over the house."
"Cool. Ok. " - This was after landing at Burbank.

Turns out it is all true.

I guess I should post a picture since it is the pic of the day...

Spent the weekend in SoCal. Made a stop at the famed LAX In N' Out and grabbed a few shots. First time ever shooting outside the fence. Gotta say, prettty sucky. And the people you meet; those who wish they could fly, but never have. Kinda sad. They can tell you everything about an airplane except what it's like to fly one. I am hellbent on getting accepted at A.Net. Just to say I crossed an item off of my bucket list. Lofty aspirations, I know.

Ha, I thought that looked like Jobos! I love that place...here's a pic from Jobos/isabela the last time I was there, I surf there a couple times a year. And the surfers stop on the bend for eats!

Awesome Picture!!!! Yeah, I'm about a 7 minute drive down the road from Jobos, pretty much at the end of the road. But its nice to see the view from your picture probably every other day:)

Next time you're down this way let me know we'll meet up for a few beers

I always enjoy flying the Luscombe. I have a couple friends that between them they own about a half dozen of them inclusing 8A's, 8E's & a T8F. A true stick and rudder airplane.
