When do WOFT students attend SERE?

Starting WOCS this week, and I've been trying to get some straight answers. A few other candidates and I are trying to figure out when we'll go to SERE. Some people told us we have to complete it before we start any flight training, others have said we start flight training right after the dunker and go to SERE whenever they can fit us in a class, which may be up to 6 months down the road.

It sounds like this may change from year to year, so if there's someone who's been through recently and can shed some light on it we would really appreciate it.

Phase one of the SERE mind game is not knowing when it begins. ;)

Guys just back from Rucker have told
me it's before flight training these days. No idea if it's moved around now and then.

Good luck in WOCS! One of my crew chiefs just graduated last week as the DHG.

I can't speak for the Army, but on the navy side it was after you got your wings, when there was a convenient time for you to go. I don't think they wanted to waste anyone's time before you were a sure thing (ie you didn't washout/attrite) from the flight program. I also know a number of folks who should have, but for one reason or another (timing) have never been.

Finished flight school last year. We graduated WOCS, had a 4 month bubble, started BOLC, finished that and went straight to SERE after BOLC. Once SERE was finished, pretty much straight into IERW

I've heard about the bubbles last year. Sounds like they're pretty much gone now. What did they have you do during those 4 months?

+1
Good luck and have fun!
Fun and SERE in the same sentence?? Then again, I did do mine at Camp McCall during the coldest February in recent history. Dropped off for evading on Wednesday. No food (except for a Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream pie and some packets of ketchup we found in a bag on a road split 4 ways), until our first meal in the camp on Monday- a handful of rice and a minnow. Tasted like Korean food to me but some guys could not handle it.

Sounds like the Ritz Carlton of SERE's to me. All I ate for a week was miner's lettuce. :)

Attended SERE July 2010, my bubble was about 5 months after WOCS, then came 6 weeks of BOLC and SERE followed immediately. I guess I can answer your questions to an extent.

Thanks for the responses.

I'm on hold right now for BOLC. They haven't given our class an actual start date yet, but it sounds like they're trying to push us through as soon as possible. We'll go to SERE right after that, so hopefully the temps will drop a bit by then. I could go for a nice bubble to get a head start on my TH-67 systems though. Not to mention some quality time with the woman after four months on lockdown.

It is always better to know the entire 5&9s before you show up at flight line but sometimes there is not much time. By the time I had started flight line, I had half of the EPs to finish, but, again, but flight line starts with a slow pace and some flights go in order of who will answer the next days limits and EPs and the questions themselves, it takes about couple weeks before the entire limits and EPs are complete, then it is random question time. By then you should know everything.

Anyway this was my timeline; Nov 09 Jan 10 WOCS - Jan 10 May 10 Bubble - May 10 Jun 10 BOLC - Jul 10 Aug 10 SERE - Aug 10 Sept 10 Bubble - Sept 10 Nov 10 Pri - Nov 10 Feb 11 Inst - Feb 11 Mar 11 BWS - Mar 11 Apr 11 Bubble - Apr 11 Sept 11 Track - Go guns!
