Republic Airways Holdings Inc. : Republic Airlines to Operate 32 Q400s as United Express

Aircraft transition to begin in August

Republic Airways Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: RJET) today announced that its Republic Airlines subsidiary has reached a tentative agreement to operate 32 Bombardier Q400 aircraft under the United Express brand. The Capacity Purchase Agreement is expected to become effective in the third quarter of 2012 and continue for approximately eight (8) years. The tentative agreement includes 28 aircraft currently in operation at Colgan Air and four aircraft currently operated by Republic in its brand division.

The agreement with Republic is contingent on completing negotiations and reaching binding agreements with aircraft lessors and maintenance providers, which is expected to occur during the second quarter of 2012.

"We are confident our experience with the Q400 turboprop aircraft will translate to a level of service that will meet the high expectations of United and their customers," said Republic Chairman, President and CEO Bryan Bedford. "We look forward to working with United on this important project."

"We are pleased to reach this agreement with Republic, which will allow United to deliver quality regional air service that our customers expect and deserve," said Alexandria Marren, senior vice president for Network Operations and United Express.

Are they taking the airplanes straight from Colgan, or are they going through EDC first?

They were leased from EDC so I think it is safe to say they will be through EDC. I hope thats not the case, but they have been hiring a ton of Colgan guys already. In all honesty though if one were to be starting over at another airline would you really want it to be republic? That is of course if you have other options, if not its a no brainer to go...

I bet they did this to try to hurry a new contract along.

"well guys...we can't get this new flying sorted out until we finish this contract."

Source?

Do not have one, what I meant was Colgan had the planes through EDC so they are going back there first I would assume. Plus when all this hit the fan EDC was the one who put out a press release stating the Qs already had a new home with UAX ( Almost like they had something to do with it) Like I said I hope thats not what happens but knowing both of these managements reputations... Well... I wouldnt hold my breath.

I love how people with no real information have all the answers.

Do you have any idea how hard it would be to ramp up 32 planes between august and dec? how about between may and dec? If they don't buy the colgan operation outright, then they will have to give full new hire training to every pilot for that plane, and transition training for every republic pilot going over. I'd love to watch them put though nearly 100 pilots a month.

even if you are typed in the Q400, if you go to the lynx certificate, you must go through that airlines approved training program. There is no way around it. Indoc, ground, systems, sim oe. ALL OF IT. A transition gets less sim time, but still has to go through. Does it really make sense that they would pick up that much of an accelerated timeline just to reset some pilots longevity, and"maybe" get a brake from the edc on lease rates?

If thats what they end up doing, it will be one hell of a CF. good luck to those still there!

They said that they had a new partner to fly them... not buy them.

they put something out, because suddenly people thought that the EDC was holding a worthless 900m note... firecontrol on their side.

the planes are not leased through edc. they are owned by pinnacle corp. they will be returned or surrendered to edc after bk. there is a big difference.

Im not sure I understand..We dont have a New contract. Its been management who has dragged their feet during the entire period. I havent talked to anyone who cares anything about new agreements with airlines, we want our contract.

We dont even have a Q400 payrate.

So what's the answer then? Not bashing just asking.

This surprised no one I know around here.

My question is who is going to fly them? (pilots)

Which certificate operates them is kind of moot. Lynx as I understand it falls under Republic (this is a wild guess, I really have no idea)

Adding a ton of airframes is good from my perspective as it means upgrade, and bodies below my on the seniority list.

Yes I realized the mistake after I posted it, either way this will be ugly and I am glad I am not going to be a part of it. I do have another theory on how they will staff them but I am keeping it to myself because it is out there.

My point is that nobody here has an answer untill an official press release. I'd at least wait for your (9e/9l/xj) union to pass down what the official deal is.

I have 2 days left, so it doesn't affect me. If i had to bet, RAH baught colgan or 10 mil, XJ name/cert for 5. something down the line in kickbacks to UAL i bet as well, but new CPA for now.

I hear ya man. If, and I mean a big IF, this is what's gonna happen doesn't the fact that republic is not Alpa complicate things even more. I wish I could bail. Tough pill to swallow to give up 4 years of senority to start at the bottom.

Right. I mean they'll probably try to entice you guys to sign something crappy by holding this under your nose.

If they bought the ticket, then your contract spells out the steps. (not that I'd want another ISL) but, I'd be interested to see how that played out for people who bailed for RAH, got a new hire number there...

Good luck to all, and try not to speculate too much. It won't be right anyways.
