I haven't kept up - hiring at the major/national level

Just curious, anyone currently interviewing/hiring for the larger carriers above the commuter level?

I heard from a reliable source that off the street hiring will happen at UAL fall 2012. There will be lots of retirements starting this fall and many many more in the years ahead. Time to update resumes and get your internal recommendations lined up.

Everything can change in a heartbeat but for now US Airways is the only one, Delta says no hiring for the rest of 2012, UAL/CAL has a lot of furloughs on the street but they still say late this year we'll see, and American (assuming they don't merge with Airways) will be at least 5-10 years before they hire again IMO...

Wheels, the list I've been keeping:

-Airways (ongoing although they've stopped for a bit right now)
-United/Cal (probably in the Fall)
-American (who knows now)
-Delta (not this year)
-Alaska (small numbers later this year)
-Hawaiian (ongoing, but very tough to get noticed)
-JetBlue (ongoing, but not at the moment)
-Southwest (Small classes, but probably not much more this year)
-Virgin (ongoing. Something like 10 more airplanes this year... if they take them with what oil is doing)
-Spirit (small numbers here and there)

I think that's about it as far as I can tell. FDX just opened (and then quickly closed) their application window, but I don't know if it was in relation to them running interviews or not.

FedEx is hiring, and plans to continue for the foreseeable future. One of our Captains here at Eagle just went over.

I thought they were getting their last plane in May or so for this year, and then a 1 year hiatus til they start taking deliveries again.

Brotha, I gave up about 2 years ago and have switched to plan B. I doubt we'll touch any big iron for another 5-7. But I'm sure some new hire will think he'll sneak in with 1000 pic, they always do. We just need to get the Q, who cares about pay :)

I didn't think it was funny, I thought it was honest.

I don't think it's any secret that Southwest won't be holding on to the 717's.

We were always told that they would be sticking around until their leases expire. That doesn't start happening until 2017. Now all of the rumors are that management is going to sell them to Delta, which will result in almost all of our captains losing their captain seats, and all of the 717 FOs (e.g., me) losing all of that good 717 relative seniority and getting forced out into the general system where our seniority is atrocious. I would go from bidding 30% in seat to bidding about 90%. Needles to say, many of our pilots are freaking out right now.

" OMG how are we going to live I have to fly the 737 and get paid nothing" don't worry world going to end in december, not now.

Let me preface this by saying I'm on Tranny's side. All of you have always been really good to me and I hate y'all are getting the shaft...

With that said, since when do you take the word of anyone in the airline industry. Getting rid of them now doesn't surprise me at all. I'm surprised the day the check cleared the bank they didn't have y'all putting "for sale by owner" signs in the windows...

Yeah, because losing your captain's seat or losing virtually all of your seniority is no big deal.
Honest question: is there ever a point that you'd start handing out resumes and looking elsewhere in the 121 world or is SWA too good of a horse to ride, even given recent events?
