A few weeks ago my company bought a Duchess so we flew up to Fort Smith, Arkansas to pick it up. It was my job to fly the 172 back to Texas and despite the rather large headwind I thoroughly enjoyed the solo trip back. I don't get the opportunity to solo often and forgot how fun and relaxing it was. Here are two of my favorite pictures from the return trip.

We liked the one we took to Africa so much we bought one for here! Where did you do the recurrent?

Great, you going to fly it much? Hawker is a great plane, just needs more baggage space and another hour of range to making crossings a bit easier.

Recurrent at Wilmington FSI. We prefer Wichita as its just under an hour on the airline, but the schedule didn't work out this time.
 
It sounds like we will be doing a lot of flying. I'm based in Wilmington...my girlfriend actually starts on the 1st as a right seater in the Hawker program at FSI here.

That's cool and I understand the idea of avoiding it for training, specifically when you get to your IR. I've found that students who earn their IR in a glass can struggle with the transition to steam, however those who got their IR in steam manage the glass transition really well. I took my IR in a steam gauge 172, then I took my CFII in a G1000 because I wanted to have taken an instrument ride in both kinds.

Best of luck on your certificate, JC is an amazing resource with tons of very knowledgeable and experienced users. I joined days before my CSEL add-on and wish I would have joined earlier.

I have heard and read that very same thing a few different times. Aside from that, most of the steam gauge planes are cheaper to rent hourly from what I have seen.
 
You know, it certainly felt sluggish on the way up.


Now if only it would give me landing numbers.
