Lightspeed Zulu 2 or Bose X?

The Zulu 2's will be on the trade up program later this summer. So the site says. Hopefully I'm not trading my new A20's. Can't wait for them to get here. My Old Av Coms from my training days are killing me

I flew with the Bose X for 6 years. When I upgraded to the Bose A20 I was really surprised at how much better they are. I had upgraded for the bluetooth only but was really surprised, A20's are much better the noise reduction and comfort.

My favorite argument for the Lighspeed is customer service; "I sent my Lightspeed's in twice for service and both time they were fixed for free and returned quickly." I own 2 Bose X's and 2 A20's. I have NO IDEA how good Bose customer service is, I've never had to use it.

Perhaps your lucky, perhaps you treat your headsets really nice or any other reason. But if/when a headset needs servicing, a company thats well known for taking care of its customers for an arguably comparable product may be worth swaying in one direction.

Of course it always comes down to whats comfortable for the user.

I sent my Bose in 6 times, while the customer service was great, the headset sucks.

I've sent my Bose X in twice and both times Bose has been FANTASTIC. You always get a person in the aviation dept when you call, and they take care of you right away. Constantly carrying around a headset, plugging in and unplugging from aircraft to aircraft while instructing for a few years really does a number on the headset internals. Before I started my new job, I sent my headset in and Bose fixed everything that was broken under warranty, and replaced all the ear seals\cups and the wool up on top.

I have used the A20 and the original Zulu. The A20 does cancel noise better than the original zulu, I have not heard how the Zulu 2 is doing. You will have no problem wearing the A20 for 8 hours, it was about the same fit as my original zulu. Perhaps a slight bit less clamping. One gripe many people have with the A20 is the auto-shutoff function will cause the headset to shut off in flight. Expect to turn that feature off and don't forget to turn off your headset when you are done.

I will be waiting for reviews from Zulu 2 owners before I make my choice but I am biased towards Lightspeed.

Wait, the auto shutoff, shuts off the ANR while in flight? How and why would it do that? Is it a bug in the headset?

You really need to see if you can try each on a long flight. The Bose gave both my wife and myself bad hotspots; the Zulu, however, has been great. Others may find just the opposite.

Haha. Wouldn't you know it, 2 hours after I order the Zulu 2's and then that comes out. Oh well, I'll be happy with my Zulu's.

That actually happened when I bought my Bose X's last year. The VERY next day, Bose announced the introduction of the new A20 headset. Oh well, I've been pretty happy with the X.

For those who care, the Bose X's are Made in the USA (MA actually), the Zulu is Made in China. That right there sealed the deal for me.

EDIT: Those new Sennheisers are made in Germany so that is also a good buy! You can't really beat anything German, they know their stuff.

I used to use Senn's studio headphones when DJing back a few years ago. Always loved their studio monitors as well. I'd imagine the audio clarity in their headset would be outstanding, but I'd have to hear it for myself.

Back on topic, I'm trying to decide between the A20 and the Zulu.2's right now. I haven't tried either, but I found a pair of A20's to try this weekend. Hopefully that will help with the decision. I've always loved the original Zulu that my roommate uses.

I heard some good things about the Sennheiser s1 digital...I also heard it was not TSO approved. Is a headset that is not TSO approved a big deal? If let's say i find a 121 or 135 job down the road?
