I believe the simple answer is yes. You will have a limitation on your ASEL to private only though. (assuming I understand the question)

I think with all the experience requirements it's cheaper to get the comm in the single, then your multi taking the Checkride to comm standards.

Pardon the brevity, I'm using a handheld.

That's where the (Assuming I understand the q....) came in! :)

If you only use a multi aircraft for the checkride, the yes, you will have the limitation.

Talk to the examiner... find out what there is to rent on the field. If there is a cheap single that you would feel comfrotable doing commercial PTS stuff in, rent it.

I took an Aztec to my examiner and then rented a 152 (dirt cheap) when we got there. Did most of the commercial ride in the 152, then swapped to the twin and finished the commercial stuff, marked off the complex requirment, and did the ME portion of the exam.

It made for a long day, but it was worth it in the end.

Its pretty common to take the CMEL first. Its what I did and then I just had to take a CSEL add on checkride. I took ten hours to learn the maneuvers for the CSEL then to my ride and was done. Until I completed the add on my certificate said Commerical Multiengine Land; Private Privileges Single Engine Land
