ASA/Express new identity: SureJet!

Re: ASA/Express new identity

The 800lb gorilla in the room management is ignoring. I remember when management cared about it's product, it was a good to be.

They need constant reminders. Don't hold back reaching out and touching them via e-mails. They don't tend to care about much going on at the operation - only how it is viewed and what it looks like from the glass windows.

I have yet to get a response from anybody. So much for an open line of communication. have you had any luck?

Re: ASA/Express new identity

I think JTrain would like something more European... like "Eine Liste Airways" or "Één lijst Airlines"

Re: ASA/Express new identity

Whatever the new names is going to be, I'm sure it's going to be something stupid. The latest one I heard was "Nexus", which if you look up the definition means "A connection or series of connections linking two or more things." Unfortunately I could see them coming up with something stupid like this.

I really don't care what we're going to be called or what the call sign will be. The only thing I care about is the 15th and 31st of every month when I get paid the the check clears.

I'm sure it's also going to be fun commuting/jumpseating for a while and getting the "Who do you work for?"...

Like the shampoo, I could see them doing that.

I have. I had a good bit of luck after SH's latest "It doesn't matter how we got here..." memo.

FYI, they still think we are adequately staffed...and...if PBS is more costly to the Company than Line Bidding was (re: pilot payroll costs month over month), that leadership would rather return to line bidding.

In listening to the XJT folks, I think PBS will be voted out anyway. There are about 15 different factors causing our crew issues, PBS is only one of them. Pairing construction is probably one of the biggest things we have to get under control.

Re: ASA/Express new identity

It's been a while since I've seen the XJT pilot group unified on an issue. PBS seems to be one of them where the great majority is against it. As is everything else, it's a bargaining chip. Let's see how bad the Skywest folks want us to have it.

This is a problem - there's a good chance INC wants to chunk it and return to lines generated by the same software that currently produces our pairings. We have a good PBS program, let's be careful about tossing a bargaining chip that might be good for us!

The funniest thong to me is that every month when the lines come out, folls complain about how had they are. But no, lets not get a new system, lets complain more.

A new system doesn't necessarily mean it'll be better. I think what people dislike more than anything are the pairings themselves and lack of days off. The pairings are the pairings, they'll be delivered via lines or PBS. The lack of days off is a result of too few pilots for the amount of flying we're doing. I doubt with PBS arriving I'll suddenly get 1 or 2 days off more per month.

People like playing the system with line bidding. We like how our schedules can get blown up due to conflicts. It seems that with PBS, the computer assures that these conflicts don't exist.

I'm not a "NO" voter if I see PBS...but again, I'll have to be convinced...It's guilty and will have to be proven innocent.

I've found the majority of discussions about PBS go something like this:

Other guy: "NO PBS!"
Me: "Why?"
Other guy: "Because it's a concession?"
Me: "Ok, explain the process mechanically, break it down and explain where it's a worse system than what we have."
Other guy: "It just is!"
Me: "Do you pilot your aircraft with this same level of ineptitude? Because if you do, I'm surprised you're not a smoking hole in the ground yet."
Other guy: "NO PBS!"

There was a thread started on the pipe recently that detailed some valid points, but the continued "PBS SUCKS!!! NO PBS!!!! YEARGGGHHHH!!!!" with the reasoning of a 5 year old bothers me more than PBS does.

Oh and you know what else bothers me? Having to be at 65% in your seat to be able to hold a hard line, and next month in Chicago? 60% when the stand ups go away. That, is, insanity. I think everybody that is railing against PBS is stuck in the fantasy land that things will magically go back to the way they were in 2004/2005 when all the G4's were senior FO's, had never been on reserve, and held 35 days off with 200 hours of credit through the magic of the ILIW. For a very large chunk of the company, anybody junior to the G's, most likely, we've never seen anything but a horrible system that does nothing but shaft junior guys.

PBS might not be the best thing ever, but if it only makes the reserve coverage up to 20% of your seat then I'll be a pretty happy guy. Anybody that's bidding under 50% at this company is a second class citizen.

Re: ASA/Express new identity

PBS with no contract language specifying any kind of union involvement or oversight is a concession. I don't know if that is what ASA/XJT is looking at, but it can get really bad.

The XJT pilot group is looking to vote no on any TA that includes PBS.

That is not what the ASA pilot group currently has, and I would not expect us to make any concession on PBS oversight. Only improvements.

Re: ASA/Express new identity

I don't even bother arguing over PBS anymore, because I think an arbitrator is going to decide anyway. Fun times ahead!

Thats as silly as the Republicans saying the government must not take one more cent of tax revenues! PBS can be really nice if you have the appropriate safeguards.
