Last one out of California turn off the lights.

I want to take their cars, stove, and electricity and sew their butts shut, being that all of those are polluting the environment. The thing about environmentalists is that they stop the moment it starts to affect their personal lives.

Great quote from my dad when I was a kid:

"A developer is someone that wants to build a house in the woods, an environmentalist is someone that has a house in the woods"

I don't think that's fair - talk to many environmentalists (myself included) and I'm sure they can tell you about a ton of things they're doing differently to have a more positive impact on the environment. I stopped dry cleaning most of my clothes once I heard how destructive that process is. Sucks because now I spend a lot more time ironing, but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. I'm also considering getting of GA for good - for a variety of reasons, but the environmental impact is a contributing factor.

They can always try to get a judge to do it. Then what?

Well, then we are all *explative deleted.* It more than likely won't go anywhere though. The levels they are complaining about are within the EPS's set standards. I don't have the time right now (got to get Jr ready for pre-school), but I remember a study that the EPA did, or I think it was the EPA, where the lead content in the run up area at SMO was about 300% less than the lead content in down town Santa Monica. The bottom line, is this is a Grand Stand tactic to force the lead out of the fuel we use. Not necessarily a bad thing, but not the proper way to do it. And we could remove the lead from the fuel, but the problem is there, and has been there for a long time, and will be there for a very very long time. What these people don't realize is that the Van Nuys area, and the Santa Monica area was not only a huge manufacturing facility for aircraft when lead was thought to be safe (SMO/BUR), but it was also a military operations area (VNY) for a number of years when the military used lead in everything they had (paint just to name one thing).

Just another reason why I want to GTFO of Kalifornia. To many happy hippie tree huggers here driving Priu'i (I think thats right), thinking they are doing the world good by driving a Hybrid. I personally don't think a Judge in his right mind would do anything with this, not yet atleast.

I wish you would get out of GA for good. If you could convince other pinko buddies to do the same that would be awesome too. That way I won't feel guilty with the pollution I'm causing running R-985's, Wright R-975's, and hopefully an 1820 someday.

Oh...who am I kidding...I wouldn't feel guilty anyway! That was just a PC thing to say. Before you quit flying though, I think you should post a shot of you flying while wearing your spandex.

I'm pretty honest with myself when it comes to the environmental impact of aviation. But I don't feel guilty about it. There's no such thing as a free lunch and it turns out it is still one of the more efficient ways to get around.

In the interest of trying to undo my share of the environmental impact, or at least reduce it where I can, I have a mass transit pass and drive only when required. (I also hate fighting traffic, so it works in my favor in multiple ways.)

Then why do you come and hang out with a bunch of gross polluters?

I do my part too...for the oil industry. Radial engines. I have an El Dorado with a 500 CuIn V-8. I operate on the theory that anything that gets over 20 MPG is boring. Aeronautically...if it doesn't make copious amounts of sweet noise and mark its territory with oil whenever parked - not interested. We are working in opposition to each other.

Well, if California kills GA there, the upside is that will be a huge boon to Arizona and Texas.

Aeronautically we're similar actually, the aircraft I operate makes large amounts of noise (stack extenders make the IO-540 sound like, well, a Harley, or at least as good as a flat pack can sound) and usually there's at least a few spots of oil on the ramp. Nowhere near a radial. And according to our engine analyzer we get maybe 8 MPG.

The factors are personal - based on the type of flying I was doing, which was more or less just putting around the pattern to stay current. I pass no judgement on anyone else, and would never think to suggest someone alter their flying in any way. Back when I was making more business trips I could justify it to myself a bit more. Now that I'm just doing the $100 hamburger rides, it's gotten more difficult to justify flying at all - particularly in light of some family circumstances that could afford more revenue.

I would hate to see what spandex does in a post crash fire :laff:

Hopefully this one goes nowhere. I don't see how they can do it, because many people could (and will) argue that this is regulating interstate commerce, which is a power granted solely to the Fed.

I think most people, if pressed, would either consider themselves environmentalists or express environmental views. The problem is that "environmental extremists" (for lack of a better term), often don't do the cost/benefit analysis of what they advocate. There is the extreme case (if my memory is correct), of the California home owner who was sued by the EPA for using a bulldozer to build a fire break in order to protect his house from a wild fire. I guess the area he bulldozed was the habitat for an endangered species... which of course was torched by the wild fire anyway. Or some of the anti-logging campaigners... who fail to realize that wood is a renewable asset in homebuilding. Or will attempt to shut down an entire industry, put thousands out of work and cause millions of dollars in losses for minimal gain. Or sell their "clunker" to buy a hybrid... not understanding that the carbon/energy used to build the hybrid is probably more than the energy saved by selling the "clunker". It's perspective and balance. No one probably wants to see a species go extinct. The vast majority don't want clear cut logging in most cases. Most would like us to use more energy efficient vehicles. But as my tai kwon do instructor in Korea use to say, "Balance".

You know, this Eric Lindberg kid is doing this wacko environmental aviation stuff. You might want to look that up and get involved because it would be a way to bridge your flying/aviation love with your environmental/pinko side. Seriously, they are doing things to make aviation "greener" so it might blow your skirt up.

I'm normally not one to help further someones pinko endeavors but it would seem you might like it.
