Rent/Train on Cessna C206 in Southern Florida?

$112 for a sky catcher? Doesn't that seem... much?

No, not considering it's a brand new airplane thats $100k plus. IMHO, the whole LSA thing is a semi-flop. It was supposed to bring down flying costs. But what people don't realize is that it still costs a lot of money to own even a spruced up ultralight. Which tranfers directly to the rental price.

I would think it would be more along the lines of a 150.. Just nicer. Low fuel burn, cheaper TBO, sure the acquisition cost would be high, but still. Maybe I'm dating myself here, but in '05 when I started my flight training a DA-20 was $68 an hour. 4.5 GPH, 120 true, and a basic gps. Great for flight training. Looked like an egg with wings.

NO, it wasn't meant to do that. The marketing guru's took it upon themselves to convince you that. All it was designed to do was reign in the previously illegally operating Part 103 2-seat ultralights.

Wow, a little testy are we? If you read the FAA's aviation news, one of the things it talked about when the NPRM cam out was some of the "fat ultralights." But it also highlights the reduced amount of training required, and no need for a commercial pilot certificate to be a flight instructor for LSA. To me, and YMMV, that translates directly into lower costs. Also, with "reigning in the previously illegal 2 seat ultralight" statement you made, they were flwn under an exemption for training aircraft. Not much different than some of the guys who currently fly part 91 aircraft with no medicals.

Yeah your better off just getting your private... and if you can't get your medical your better off just flying with your buddy thats a pilot.

Piper blew it. They should have pulled tooling out for the old Vagabond and updated it. A Vagabond with an O200 would be a really kick ass airplane if they could keep it light.

Or better yet, the Colt - with it's technologically better tricycle landing gear system.
