November 29 Stans Class

You'll be fine. Nobody washes out because of the written test. Whatever you miss gets covered by AH or who ever is running the class. I'm glad you did well. Now go get yourself a blue monkey suit and join the party!

thanks sooner!!, unfortunately they confirmed that three of the guys did not pass the flight, then they quit and went home so that leaves us with just 8 guys. haha!! blue monkey suit, :D do they make us buy everything or just the shirt, tie, and slacks? if we do have to buy them do you have any suggestions of places I can find them for cheap? thanks!!

There's a uniform shop by the Outback Steakhouse on US1. They have the shirts. You will be responsible for the shirt, pants, belt, shoes etc. The name tag, wings, and epaulets are supplied by FSA. You may have to purchase the wings. I think FSA also carries the ties. I recommend the zipper tie. I recommend Haggar pants. They look nice and won't quickly fade like some others. They used to have a Haggar store at the Outlet Mall but I think it closed. You can get them at Macy's at the Indian River mall. Putting together your uniform will probably cost you around $150 or so. It just depends on what you already have that you can use and how many shirts and pants you want to buy.

Also if you have or know anyone who has any military affiliation, the Air force pilot shirts are great. They are only $12 each, versus $25.

I got my shirts from a senior CFI, ask around (I think I paid less then 20$ for each shirt), they are way better then the one sold at the uniform shop and they are the same the air force/coast guard uses, good quality and fit!

This was also part of my uniform:

Hey guys, I have a question for all instructors, I was in this last standards class, completed it all successfully and I still to this day havent heard from my program manager (Michael Marks) with a list of students, seems kind of surprising to me since they gave the impression that they where in a desperate need for instructors. If anyone can just give me the inside scoop on how it all work and how long it typically takes to get going, I turned down a job offer closer to home at a very big flight school to work at FSI and now Im wondering if I made the wrong decision. thanks and happy new year to all

As far as I can remember, you usually get a couple of students immediately. The holidays may have played a part in you not getting students right away. I would talk to your PM in person. Don't wait for him to contact you. I would also ask other instructors if they need a hand with their students.

Well I send him an email and he replied "VFR work is slow right now, I will notify you with students as they come in". Should I still go and see him in person? I dont want to seem annoyingly persistent.

thanks for the help sooner, I actually heard from mark today, I was assigned two students for now and I start Instrument Stands next week, so it should all be good!

Good luck with instrument stands, its a blast -- :sarcasm: --
Also you should be a lot busier after that, Instrument IPs are drowning in students right now.

One other thing Nuneze, which school did you turn down a job from? Seeing your location got me curious.

Oh man, I do hear it is really tough! Im sure I'll struggle but I'm gonna try my hardest, I want to stay proficient in all aspects of instrument flying and teaching, thanks for the good wishes. The only thing that really worries me is all the NDB work since I was never really exposed to much of it.

oh about that other place :P , all Im saying is that it starts with and E and ends with a U ..

The only advice I can give for stands is to use your IP prof time is the FNPT. Get in there and work on those NDBs becuase we really 'love' them here and they will make sure you fully understand them.

Sounds good moose... thanks for all your advice! Im going to take a look at the low enroute and start familiarizing myself. btw are you still around much?

Focus on the charts surrounding KVRB, KMLB, KFPR, and the ILS for KTIX. You most likely won't venture too far away from these airports in the 141 program. (Except cross countries, of course) Take very good notes from AH's BAI brief. He wants you to give it right back to him when you perform the stan flights/frasca.

No joke...record AH's BAI brief with your phone and take a picture of the dry erase board when he is done.

Too much, I feel like I live there some days.
For your IR stands flight you will either go to MLB or FPR that's almost a guarantee. Two non precision and one precision, you will fly two and teach one.

I love that this thread exists. Just passed my stands ride today and I have so many questions I don't even know where to start.:panic:
Another thing I love, this forum's selection of smileys.

Congratulations on passing. Any questions just let us know and we will try and help. Typically we all had the same questions at one point or another.
