Flight Review

N519AT

Ahh! This is how I change this!
Here's a scenario that my friend (who is a fellow CFI) is currently experiencing. He knows a guy (let's call him John) that owns a 2007 Mooney Acclaim. John's flight review is currently expired. My friend doesn't have his high performance endorsement.

Can my friend do John's flight review in John's airplane?

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but I just want to get input from the JC community before I go tell my friend.

Owner doesn't have a flight review, thus can't be PIC. CFI doesn't have high performance, and thus can't be PIC. Who's going to be PIC for the flight?

I agree with KSCessna Driver. Owner is basically expired on flying anything solo because he missed the cutoff date. Your CFI friend does not have his high performance endorsement. Therefore no one is qualified to be PIC. And i know, novice question, but..they still make Mooneys?

lol. I don't know much about mooneys (read: nothing) does it comfortably go 200 in cruise though?

I don't have any experience with them. I'd bet that it'll run 200 in cruise, or very close to it, if you take it up into the flight levels. Just have to be willing to suck on the bottle.

I dont have much time in one. But theres one based here that I have flown as a right seat passenger on a few trips and we would see around 215 in the teens and 225 in the 20s. It could go faster but the owner isnt going to run the hell out the engine to get the extra speed.

Yeah that

If "John" is out of currency he could still log PIC he just can't act as PIC, and neither can a non HP endorsed CFI so... the flight is a no-go. If the owner hadn't already let his currency lapse I'm inclined to think the non-HP endorsed CFI could legally do the FR sign off.

why are mooneys not more popular? man I want one now... piston single and 200kts? damn.

Even the older mooneys are fast airplanes for the engines on them. But the thing with mooneys is that maintence can be much more due to cost of parts.

Indeed. Fastest piston single available on the market.
Hate to break it to you...
They've stopped once again.

I'm guessing this would be their problem:

I'm my opinion, the Mooney line is done for. They've been totally out classed by the new composite aircraft and they can't compete with big players like Cessna.

Yes, they aren't making any new planes, but they likely have at least one in the manufacturing process on the floor of the factory in order to hold on to their production certificate. I'd really love for them to come up with a way to make the airplane lower cost, as it has potential over the SR-22/Cessna 400 IMO. If I was going to fly one of the 3 in icing, I'd pick the Mooney any day. I don't buy the landing gear on the SR22/C400 not picking up ice, so I'd rather have them tucked away like the Mooney

My guess would be the SR22 and the Cessna 400, as well as it very poor usefull load. Top the fuel and you can only bring two with tooth brushes. Most owners that look at an airplane with that kind of capibility seem to want to be able to bring their kids along as well. It's a very nice airplane, but it has a very limited mission profile.
