G4 FO pay

Hey, a longtime buddy asked me the other day what a G4 FO salary was. I'm an airline guy and don't know crap about crap. Anyone here got any fancy magazines with the going rate of a G4 FO? A fellow member of JC told me low side was about 60 grand and it can go upwards.

Should be way higher than 60. Average is probably 105 ish. Depends on which survey, and it does vary widely. I'm sure there are a few at 60 who employ low time (for the airframe) folks and pay them poorly because they get gulfstream time. Professional operators should see six figures within a couple years and good benies even for the right seat.

Thanks for the quick response.

Do you have the actual survey numbers?

I should have said earlier, I would like starting pay for FO versus career level pay for that same FO.

Stanton Survey (2008):

Captain -
Gulfstream IV
Base Salary:
Average - $107,900
Quartiles:
Q1 - $95,100
Q2 - $109,600
Q3 - $118,600
Average Bonus - $12,400 (80% received bonuses)

Total Cash:
Average - $116,900
Quartiles:
Q1 - $104,100
Q2 - $119,100
Q3 - $128,200

I'd say knock off about 15-20k for an FO position. As to what he'll REALLY make; it all depends if the owner/operator understands the importance of of taking care of the guys up front, or if he's just trying to fly a big boy toy as cheaply as possible.

OK, thank you man.

But a GIV is the same size as a CRJ FO with fewer passengers and the schedule is usually much easier so why so high? I would do it for 1500/month!

No I'm really kidding don't flame me please! :)

:banghead::banghead::banghead:

muahahahahaha. :)

Seriously, 80-100k for an fo? Not that it shouldn't be that much, cause it absolutely should, but compared to other rates that seems like a lot....

I think those numbers are low (the Stanton survey above) btw...

Light to midsize jet crews (part 91) are exceeding those numbers by a fair margin at reputable flight departments.

I was going to say the same... They look more like numbers for 135 vs. 91.

So I could contribute something positive to this thread I looked up NetJets on APC.

First Year Large cabin aircraft FO: 65K-79K depending upon the schedule, the easiest one being 7 ON 7 OFF.

Also flightoptions is listed on APC as flying the Gulfstream. First Year pay is 48,000 but I don't think its a G4.

The GIV/V rates are not listed on APC. APC only shows the Falcon/BBJ rates. NJI rates were never listed. The "large cabin" rates refer to the DA2000EX.

Footnote: NJI is in the process of being absorbed into NJA. All NJI aircraft are being added to the NJA operating certificate.

There are big differences between Part 91, 91k, and 135 for the same fleet type -- even within the US.

Unfortunately there are also many flavors of 91 from the single plane owner operator to Fortune 500 corporate flight department -- salaries for the same type may vary widely. Generally speaking though corporate requires more networking, has higher barriers to entry, (ie minimums are higher) and compensation is in the higher end of the range.

There are light jet operators that start FOs in the 60-70 range with Captains topping out in the 120s before you even talk about bonuses, stock, retirement, etc (Usually Fortune 500 types). Unfortunately they hire infrequently and when they do hire they are inundated by resumes. That same equipment type may also be flown by a 135 operator with newhire FOs starting in the teens.

That is one of the reasons it is so difficult to nail down average pay rates for business jets. You need to clarify a little bit more whether it's charter, fractional, corporate, owner/operator, freight, pax, what region of the US, etc... and then use salary surveys to fine-tune the number. Even then it will never be as easy as it is with Part 121 (where there are published contractual pay rates) to figure out what average payrates should be.

Ahh thanks for that info. Its been awhile since I've been around the fractional side of the industry.
