21 jump runs today

Do any of you have connections with DZs in southern AZ? I've been trying to head that direction in lieu of being on the road for six months with my mapping gig. Just don't have any contacts...

no i don't have any other connection, but I guarantee you if you hang out at a DZ long enough someone will know someone. It's a pretty tight knit group like aviation.

Done :D

Cedartown?

They usually run a combo of King Air, Caravan and sometimes the otter.
Sure was man. Was wondering if you would know it offhand. Had a drunken blast all weekend but still was unable to not look up every time he flew over on his way back to the airport.
As much fun as I was having I bet he had more.

Was a great introduction to the Georgia lifestyle though.

oh yeah, only one I remember seeing was the otter

averaged 18 minute turns from the ground to 14,500 and back (12 pax + me)
had some of the softest landings with little power changes from downwind to touchdown in a long time
averaged 20 gallons of fuel per load

Downwind? whats that? Jump run finished, flaps up, power back, hard bank 90 to the left turning final at 5k. An approach on an ILS seems very low now.

That's as good as it's gonna get this time of year. I use around 90 gal per 4 runs but we packem in there, 14 jumpers a load. Depending on low passes and how long they take their sweet time to get on the plane during hot loads all adds to fuel burn. 14 jumpers and a fresh fuel load, 16-18 min. 8 jumpers and the last trip before fuel, 13 min.

Saturday I flew 20 with a 1.5 hr weather delay and me fueling the plane.
Sunday I flew 22 with an early shut down due to wx and me still fueling the plane.
Makes for a long weekend........

What do you get paid? I get $15 a load.

lol - not doing the pattern would shave off 3 minutes :P Somedays I wish I could go straight in, I'd get done an hour earlier.

I get $1 a head, basically; or, a flat rate per day if the numbers are not there. It's not "good" pay by any means, but I hadn't had a job in a year and the multi turbine is a good step to corporate work at the end of the summer.

Here was my last flight in 8/2008 until the B90 gig 5/10!

Now how about telling me where those corp gigs are!

21 jump runs? The correct phraseology is 21 loads fool! Are you afraid someone might misunderstand and think you are a porn star?

Nice. I always have a good time flying jumpers, and busy days are the best way to do it.

Although I'd rather be jumping. My dropzone is perpetually short on pilots and keeps needing me to fly rather than jump.

Only 3 or 4 jumps away from being certified, so I should have it finished up in the next weekend or two. Can't wait to put "'A' License Skydiver" in my sig line :rawk:

I'm finishing up my A license as well, and also got a smoking deal on a complete rig so downsizing. I'm very anxious to jump the new rig this weekend, so I'm hoping someone else can fly.

What's your home dropzone? If you're anywhere near Nebraska, you should come to Crete Skydiving Center and make a jump with me sometime.

As for downsizing, I'm keeping my nice, comfy 170 canopy for the foreseeable future (I'm only 135 pounds). If I sprain an ankle flying some sporty little piece of fabric, it'll take me out of both flying and jumping...doubly crappy ;)

I might be the most risk-averse skydiver I know!

My home drop zone is Sky Dive Hot Springs in South Dakota. Where is Crete?

I attempt to confuse people into that line of thought every time I tell them what I do.

"Oh yeah, I used to forge my way into the bush all the time, now I'm just all about the landing strip."

jrh, you going to Couch Freaks?

Sure am! Several of us from my DZ are going. I can't wait to jump out of the big turbine stuff.

Unfortunately I can only make it for Sunday. I'm taking the next week off work to road trip to my brother's wedding in Portland, Oregon. I'm not even going to ask my boss for TWO weeks off work, because I already know what the answer will be ;)

Will you be there? PM me your contact info if you want to meet up.

interesting airport. Why the different CTAF really early in the morning?

I must have missed something. Where do you see a different CTAF for early morning?

I've been flying in and out of KCEK for years and always use 122.8. Didn't know there was ever anything different.

He's seeing the Lincoln approach frequency (124.0) and 128.75 on the sectional.

My guess is that those frequency are for the jumper planes to announce jumpers away. So the jumpers would be talking to Lincoln approach from 0530-2400, and on 128.75 in the middle of the night when approach is closed. And 122.8 for the CTAF. The feds maybe put that there so pilots flying in and out can monitor it and listen for skydivers.

My other thought was maybe they put Lincoln approach's frequency on there so that you would contact them since Crete's within 20 miles of Lincoln, but if that was the case, I'd have no explanation for the 128.75.

Yeah, I really misread that. Must have been tired or something.

And, I would assume that they don't talk to Lincoln there as they are not within their airspace, just announce on the local CTAF.
