Ain't nobody got time for that
Hey everyone

How do you guys feel about the Civil Air Patrol?

I am interested in joining CAP for a few reasons.

-it gives me the opportunity to fly (if not free[mission], at a small dry rate)
-it allows me to network
-it also allows me to get younger people excited about aviation

anyone with CAP experience?

I'd like to know if it's "stupid, waste of time, wanna be military" or if it's actually a worthwhile thing for someone who is not of a military background and quite frankly doesn't want to be in a military operation but wants to be around aviation

thanks yall. (and I apologize if I offended anybody)

I can tell you that if I had joined CAP as soon as I got to Anchorage 6 years ago I would've saved a ton of money on my flight training, primarily because I would've had privileges at the Aero Club at Elmendorf AFB. In any case, in Alaska I've been able to meet some very cool aviators through CAP. There are those with varying opinions from the lower 48, but up here most seem to know what they're doing.

All depends on the people in the unit. Some are very good, others not so much. I would find one nearby and spend some time with them to get to know who you're dealing with, then decide if you want to be a part of that.

Can anyone point to a page or link where it shows how many actual finds/rescues they have in a year?
